Just ran over my dog.
      #231927 - 01/07/13 01:10 PM

Headed off to test out some handloads for the 250-3000 and as usually threw my JRT 'Bruno' in the tray for a run. We have a routine where I open the range, then let him off his lead and we race each other up the range to the 300 yard mound.

Something caught his attention and he speared off across the front of the 'deo. I pulled up, couldn't see him and looked back to see his small white corpse with head crushed, lying in the middle of the access track.

Words can't describe the feeling. In 9 years on road as a Paramedic I've seen a fair share of brutality, cruelty, death and mutilation but this brought me unstuck.

We've had him for 6 years and he has been a total arsehole of a dog, full of rat cunning, undisciplined (my fault) and he had all the pig dogs around town totally bluffed. He had a great nose for a blood trail but was a complete liability for anything else.

RIP Mate.

At 6 weeks day one at home.

Caught in the light having a piss as a pup.

Sorry to hear about it. It must feel aweful. But not your fault. My GSP used to dodge right in front of my vehicle or tractor when younger, and often I had to slam on the brakes. He is lucky to be alive today. He is better now, but still might do it, especially if chasing a rabbit.

At least he was killed instantly and did not need to be put down.

Hi John,

That's terrible mate but as John said, you didn't have to put him down which is a plus for both of you.

Cheers Mate,

Jeff

Sorry this happenend to your dog.
Some dogs just seem to be that way and don't really know how to stay out of trouble.
My female GSP is like that. Would rather chase birds, bats, butterflies over doing anything else, especially over being obedient. I know it will lead to something tragic someday, but all I can do now is just shake my head, chuckle, and say "bitch..."

Thanks for your replys fellas. Luckily it was all over quickly and he died doing what he loved most, 'having a run' on the rifle range..

Tophet1,
Sorry to hear of your loss.
I was a paramedic for 15 years and saw more death and destruction of humanity than I ever cared to.
I lost my second hunting dog / family pet a couple of months ago.
Buddy was thirteen and just got old.
Losing our four legged mates hurts like hell.
Honor his memory and think of all the good times you had together.
