For the Safari man - Safari Cigars
      #231400 - 21/06/13 04:15 AM

Doug Giles, an internet friend/acquaintance from Florida, is a drinking, shooting, hunting, cigar smoking pastor who does not hold back on his political views, has launched a new cigar line along with business partner Brandon Vallorani. Doug shoots a double rifle so can't be all bad!

If I can work out a way to get a box into Australia, I want to give these a try.

"Our .375 Mag is a box pressed Churchill style cigar measuring 6.5X48. It is made with a custom blend comprised of a San Andre`s Maduro Wrapper, binder from Ecuador, and filler from Nicaragua."

Safari Cigar's founders Brandon Vallorani and Doug Giles with a massive water buffalo Brandon shot with a classic double rifle. Many of our smokes were roasted in celebration of a successful big game hunt.

I haven't been game to try importing some yet myself, considering Australia's nanny state communisto tobacco laws ... maybe you can be the guinea pig.

Looked up the import regulations and ...

Can I import Cuban cigars into Australia?
The Australian Customs and Border Protection Service does not prohibit the importation of cigars from Cuba.

Note: The United States has some prohibitions on the importation of certain products from Cuba – including cigars.

As at and from 1 February 2013 cigars that weigh 0.8 grams or less per stick have a duty rate of $0.35447 per stick and are classified to 2402.10.20 in the Customs tariff.

Cigars that weigh more than 0.8 grams per stick have a duty rate of $443.11 per kilogram of tobacco content and are classified to 2402.10.80 in the Customs tariff.

Note: Most cigars will weigh more than 0.8 grams and the duty will therefore be charged on the weight of the cigar rather than per stick and GST will also apply. The Customs Tariff should always be referred to for current duty rates prior to importation.

So a box of 20 of the .375 Mag "Churchills" costs US$170 and a donation to the KRudd/ Nicola P(r)ox-on re-election and fiscal waste fund of $195 in tobacco import tax + $36.50 GST, driving up a US$8.50 cigar to $20.08. Still the cigar would probably cost at least $30 at a retail shop and often a lot more.
