Next Mauser project starting slowly....
      #230285 - 21/05/13 12:25 AM

As some of you knows, I have one 9,3x64 m98 Mauser made from m640 (or m246, not exactly sure) Husqvarna. For a long time I have been thinking to built an another Mauser still so I bought one FN made SAKO-Mauser Civil action from one forum member. As here quite usual, it had APEL type sidemount for scope. I dismounted it and local retired gunsmith plugged those holes (not perfect as you`ll see) and made new 17 mm bases for normal mounts. I bought unused Zastava (.30-06 lenght) magazine and SAKO trigger with cocking piece from eGun. The unfinished stock is from germany too. The caliber will be 7x64 but the barrel still missing....

As mentioned, those plugs are not so nice but I think they`ll just go unvisible under the wood.

The side safety wing is still missing but I´ll make some modifications and attach it later.

I like the stock quite much, it costs only 200€ which IMO is cheap price for a such a nice wood

Hello Igorrock

A nice project - thank you for sharing.

I like your scope mount bases, this European style has much more appeal to me than the “American style” which to my eye are very “angular” . I assume they take the same rings as the CZ527 rifles ??

Would it be possible to see if your Gunsmith will make a set for a small ring Mauser, as I’m down in New Zealand I would have to have the final fitting completed here.

Thanks

Foster

Actually, I have a long time m98 small ring project waiting so it could be possible too. I´m going to build one small caliber rifle to this action, maybe 6 mm Remington aka 7x57 necked down to 6 mm bullet.

You are right, at least pistol grip and cheek piece will have some modifications.
