Gents,
I purchased a M-98 Mauser Magnum by Prechtl in .450 Dakota a number of years ago and have had put nothing but factory fodder through it. Would like to know if anyone has developed lower power loads for the cartridge and also might express their experiences with the cartridge- thank you.
Kindest regards...

The 450 Dakota, Rigby, Weatherby all have similar enough case capacity to work.
I have loaded for all 3

For top loads I use 100grs H4350 with a 600 for 2400fps. After that I agree, something with a bit less recoil is nice.

20grs of TrailBoss with a 400cast for about 1500-1700fps
65grs Accurate 5744 with 350gr Hornady for 2400fps

Caprivi,
Thank you, appreciate the information. Interesting, you are loading a 600 grainer at that velocity- lethal for sure. I was entertaining a 400 gr at the same velocity to put it in the .416 Rigby category. The intent is a buffalo load with a lesser recoil recovery time. Any thoughts?

Kindest regards...

In years gone by I loaded the 500 in the 460 at 2350. Plenty of speed, as much power as a 45 is gonna give you really, and "easy" shooting. The Lott and Express did the same thing in my guns.

Went with 600's due to customer demand. Had a year where all of them seemed to be hunting Elephant. Worked for me, as I sold all my bolt rifle stoppers....long story. Anyway we smuggled in a pile of Frontier CS and they worked great.

A 400 like a TSX or a Swift at 2400-ish would be a delight. Contact Hodgdon for data with there H4895, I seem to remember a reduced load with it and a 400
