Correct configuration - Type B in 9.3 x 62
      #226203 - 01/03/13 02:50 PM

I should know this but I don't. Was the Type B in 9.3 x 62 available from the factory with a Silvers pad or only the Mauser buttplate? If a Silvers pad, what thickness?

I am having the stock refinished on the rifle now (has an old vent pad) and just want it to be correct.

Many thanks

There was "Weichgummi-Kolbenkappe" -mention in Mauser catalogue but I donīt know which brand they used. IMO the leather covered pad is always a good and ageless alternative.

Thanks Igorrock, I agree re: the leather covered pad. I know some Mauser rifles in 10.75x68 and .404 Jeffery came with Silvers pads, and I have a Type A in 8x60 that has a silvers pad (don't know if its original). As always with oberndorf Mausers, the general rule is probably "there is no general rule".

The original prewar buttplate on the B-Model(before 1914) was done in horn(stag) with a M and a W put together.
The interwar Mausers was done with a rubber material.

I own an original type A in 9.3x62 with the red rubber recoil pad which I believe is original, the pad matches my other type A in 10.75x68 (Speed's book page 403 "ten of the best type A's") other than the 9.3 does not have the leather cover. I have not seen a model B with a recoil pad myself except page 409 and 410 of Speed's book.
