Value on a lefthanded H&H royal
      #225855 - 24/02/13 02:32 AM

How would you consider the value on a 1947 H&H royal 375 flanged with original left hand stock, compared to the same rifle in right hand stocking.

My thoughts may bend to that it could have good intereset as lefthanded guns must bee hard to get by and therefore attractive to a person in need of a lefthanded person.

I think one point to consider is whether the rifle is truly left handed, that is, does the action lever move from right to left instead of from left to right. If that is the case, it would certainly increase its value to a left handed shooter and reduce its value to a right handed one. Merely changing the butt stock from right handed to left handed is not a problem by comparison.

Nice left handed guns are hard to obtain. I'm sure there is a LH shooter out there that would love to own such a fine rifle. A 10-15% premium is the usual price adjustment, more or less in some cases - also depends on the motivation of the seller.

About 10 years ago I just missed a LH drilling in a gun shop in Germany. I had seen the shop in travels, and never made time to stop. When I did finally go in, I asked if they had any LH drillings, and the lady behind the counter looked bewildered. She said they had one on their shelf for 4 years with no interest, and earlier in the week sold it to a shop in France!

Its important to remember that in rifles of this quality the bend will start from the breech face, so tangs and lock plates will all be cast on, although not necessarily obviously so.
This means is not simply a matter of restocking for a right hander. Also the triggers will be set up for a left hander.
Therefore value...lots to lefty, zip to a right hander who wants to shoot it.
Are there more right handers than left...I think so.
