Winchester Moving Assembly to Portugal
      #225438 - 17/02/13 04:10 PM

There have been rumours for months now, but Winchester has stated on Face Book that it is moving production to Portugal. Made In The USA no longer.

Do you have a link to that statement? Thanks.

Can you be more specific ?

ALL Winchesters or just certain models.

So does that mean the FN plant won't be making them
anymore ?

Thanks, but I meant the ACTUAL WINCHESTER link, seeing as it is claimed it is on the Winchester facebook page. Could not find it there myself. A blog is just a blog, prefer the original statements.

Portugal or the USA, if quality stays the same or improves, but price stays or decreases, not a problem. Lots of good gunmakers in Spain and Portugal, probably more quality makers than the USA ???

There might be some good gunmakers in Spain and Portugal, but none that produce anything in quantity. Hunters in Spain and Portugal are very wealthy men, and usually politically connected.

If you read one of the blogs, some guns by Winchester are already made this way.

With O´banner and his henchmen in power I can't blame Winchester. Possibly some transferpricing and logistical reason to move to Portugal. FN/Browning P35 highpower and some shotguns in Portugal been assembled earlier.

G'Day Fella's,

I used to own a Brand New Browning BAR (Safari II?) in .338 Win Mag!
If I remember correctly, it was Made or Assembled in Portugal???

It "WAS" a very nice rifle but I only got to shoot two rounds thru it, before the Port Arthur Massacre occurred! The rest unfortunately, is History!!!

It's about this time that I say FJWH!
That slimy little political animal!!!

Curious about this as I thought the current owners Winchester was FN --and they built a new plant in S Carolina...seems odd they would move so quickly...

It's funny that this has been a hot topic on a bunch of other forums such as 24 Hour Campfire (USA), Alberta Outdoorsman (Alberta Canada), and Accurate Reloading, to name but a few, since October of last year. (They meant nothing to me John)

My own feelings are that with the upcoming defence spending cuts in the USA, and with Portugal being in dire straits, politics, more than economics, were involved.

Assembly of the American guns will start taking place in Portugal soon this year. This portends for complete manufacturing in Portugal at a later date. The latter sentence being my gut feeling.
