locking mechanisms on hinge guns
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
folks,

I am coming across various doubles on the internet, can't afford one but I like to look. It occurs to me I have no idea of the types of locking mechs on these. They sometimes say what type, but I am not sure of what they are.

Does anyone have some explanations/pictures of the various types? I assume some are stronger than others, some more economical to make etc.

-Ryan

www.hallowellco.com

Scroll down and click on Abbreviations, definations, & Opinions ! This is a very good sourse of explanation! It doesn't have everything, but will be a big help in understanding the double rifle jargin!

You are quite welcome, and yes it is a very helpful site!

As far as affording a double rifle, my advice is to buy yourself a medium chambering, in a newly made double like a Merkel 140 chambered for something like 9.3X74R. They can be found, used, for a real bargain sometimes. They are absolutely perfect for North American hunting, and will handle anything walking this continent, with the proper bullet. The little 9.3 is fine for most things in Africa, as well! The idea is, these doubles are a fine starting point, for a new to double rifle person. The 9.3 is also a good rifle to sell when you want to upgrade to something bigger. Sort of getting in, in small steps! Drive your car one more year, and buy a double for the same money you would have spent in payments!

Come on in, guy, the water's fine!
