this 404 Jef. looks also like a FN 10,75x68 was taken and rechamber into a 404 whats not a big problem. notice the style of the bolt handle, the rear sight and the position of the serial number on barrel and receiver.
the stock is not the very best replacement of the original one.

Yeah funny position of the numbers. Is that heavy grime on the front ring and Knox or marks from heavy use?

Here’s what looks like (?) an original Type B, molestered by some Neanderthal by rebarreling to 308 and altering the bolt handle. Either that or maybe a replacement bolt handle. Not quite sure what he means by short action - could it be a kurz? Or just an intermediate?

The 10.75x68 would be an awesome beast!
Looks like the scope is not original (perhaps a second) - as in it uses a barrel mount for its front legs not the mount on the front of the action.

imho, it had a second scope maybe a light 4x and it looks to me like this was original to

another unmarked but vintage mauser in 8x57 I from Suhl https://auctionet.com/de/3841488-98-kal-8-x-57i-27860-se0205488

notice the lines for the shot elk on the stock

beside of the big supley of Husqvarna rifles in 9,3x57 https://intersurplus.com/collections/9-3x57 for a real discount price (recommend you to buy ) there are some german made mauser 98 rifles in 9,3x57 showing how german dealer jump on the train when this caliber became popular in sweden.

export by geco to sweden, made in suhl 9,3x57

this are basic rifles, real working guns who had to compete with the local made cheaper husqvarna rifles( no tax because made in sweden) than. geco was than a big gun exporter and in the bad 1930s when money was scarce you had a hard time to sell new guns. to get a good price was only possible because they had surplus actions from the great war on stock.

I bet you a pound this not a 9,3x57 https://intersurplus.com/collections/9-3x57/products/schmidt-rubin-sporter-in-9-3x57 but a very rare 9,3x53 Swiss

I have a WJ Jeffery Rifle built on the Arisaka Action in 6.5x50R on Gunbroker. One of only six made by Leonard in 1921.In a Henry Adkin case that was from a Rigby Mauser with 21" barrel retailed by them.

have to agree, this is not a favorite

Someone gifted me a Carcano "project" rifle. It actually hurts to try and engage and disengage the safety. I'm not a fan either.
Anybody know why the barrel sling eye is so far towards the muzzle?

That's an extremely nice Arisaka..I'm currently building one in 284 Winchester and this rifle gives me some good ideas....

In a decent length action, the .284 is quite a good all-round ctg.
I really like the idea of a fast twist 6.5x284.

a P 14 action but you .330 fan boys maybe like it
https://www.naturabuy.fr/BSA-1923-SPORTING-RIFLE-CALIBRE-330-BSA-item-12761483.html

"The gun presented is a BSA (Birmingham Small Arms) ‘1923 Sporting Rifle’ chambered in the very rare .330 BSA cartridge (also called .330 Belted Nitro Express) specially created for this gun and ...used in no other. What's more, the gun's serial number is only two digits long!

The mechanism is that of the regulation P-14 in .303 British with a few modifications:

-The protective lugs have been milled off, the original rear sight has been replaced by two eyelets marked 200 & 400 yards which are independently adjustable in drift.

The operating lever no longer has its unsightly ‘dog-leg’ shape.

The magazine is the original, so the .330 cartridge is the same length as the .303.

As for the wood, it is an original military stock transformed into a hunting stock thanks to multiple perfectly executed grooves: The labour force of the time was skilled and cheap!

Externally, the metal parts are ‘faded’, the original tan has whitened quite a bit in several places, but there is no rust. The barrel is what it is, not bad at the end but with pitting as early as the connecting cone. In short, it's not ‘mirror-like’.

The wood is not bad, it has been cleaned and restored but it still has a few missing parts and signs of wear.

As for the cartridge... It's rare, even for collectors! So it will be necessary to remake some.

The cases are easy to make because the cartridge is very close to the .338 Winchester Magnum with which it shares a projectile of the same diameter (.338"). You have to start with the 7 mm Remington Magnum or the .338 Winchester Magnum and lower the shoulder. Given its rarity, I had custom dies made at CH-4D because it wasn't in the catalogue. But a shortened LEE set makes it possible to lower the shoulder. The case taper is the same as that of the .375 H & H.

The projectiles are standard .338 but the gun has a long rifling pitch to fire the 165 grain bullet and I haven't found anything lighter than .200 grain on the market. this one is poorly stabilised.

The gun comes with a set of CH-4D dies, a set of Lee dies for forming, an 8.4 mm drill for reaming cases after reforming, and an original cartridge in its original box. The site rules forbid the sale of recalibrated cases (I had made about sixty).
The gun will be shipped disassembled.

It is obvious that this weapon can interest only a lover of sheep with 5 legs which likes the challenge and controls the reloading. If you're looking for a ready-to-use weapon, move on."

The only light weight .338" bullets I am aware of, are the Barnes TSX BT and MRX BT at 185gr.

I like the idea of the two peep sights, is there a spring or something that hold them in the upright position ?
