Hello all,

I am new to this board and pretty much to big bore rifles as well. I do have a Browning A-bolt in .375H@H which I love, but I guess I always considered it a medium bore.

My question is ... what is the next logical and usefull step upward in power from my 375. Would like to find a caliber that is available "off the shelf" without breaking the bank (from what I've read, the 416 Rigby is very expensive to feed). I am intrigued by the low cost of a CZ 550 but, have also read about the cracking issue.

What do you all think?

I have a 416 550 and think its a great rifle.Have your 'smith
slick up the action,adjust the trigger,bed the action and install two PROPER cross bolts-rifle will outlast you.

Two choices..416 Rigby and 458 Lott

The 416 has all the feel that only comes with those real big cartridges. In general terms it does the same sort of velocities as the 375 H & H with bullets of equal sectional density. Almost like comparing a 338 Winchester to the 30/06.

But if you want to play about shooting rocks, tins and small animals etc. the 458 Lott has the big plus of 45/70 bullets. Cases can also be made from 375 cases.

416 Rigby for genuine big game use being the main purpose of the rifle

458 Lott if big game shooting is to form a minor part of the rifles use.

In Australia you have to reload.Norma brass is around $3.50 a case and of course Woodleigh projectiles are readily available.
