Looking for a needle in a haystack
      #221195 - 09/12/12 04:54 AM

I need recomendations for a good smith that won't charge custom prices and will deliver when he says he will. I live in Alaska. Not many gunsmiths up here. The ones I know about are, let's just say unreliable. I have some work that I want done on a .318 takedown. Normal everyday gunsmith stuff. Solder a missing front sling eye on. I have a replacement, Dovetail the bolt shroud for a peepsight which I also have and the rifle shoots 12" high at 100 yrds so I have a new front sight that needs installing. I'll have other work on other guns once I find the right smith. Thanks

Only advice I have is the custom prices and timeframes exist for good reason, I wouldn't allow something as simple as cutting a dovetail in a 80 year old gun to be done by a casual smith. Talent is worth the time and money as it's not just a Rem 700. Just my small change.

I've got another bolt shroud. Saving the original as is.
