Martini 218 Bee
      #220072 - 23/11/12 05:38 PM

I thought I'd post a few pics of a project Martini that started life as 22 Hornet, It then got rechambered to 218 Bee but a bulge developed in the chamber. I then decide to throw on an 2nd hand Ruger 223 barrel a mate donated.

Forend timber need to be shorten a bit to match the 'New' 18inch barrel. I'll also refinsh the timber and install the recoil pad in the coming weeks. I had the chamber reamed with the tuff as 40gr BT projectile in mind, so 50-55gr SP proj could also comfortably be used without robbing too much powderspace.

Whilst not a classic looking rifle, it is a gun taht I will use on small game.

That's really nice and will be a fun gun to shoot.

Pablo:
I have one similar to that in a .218 Mashburn bee. I assume the breach block has been bushed? If you have any trouble with primes flowing into the pin hole, try CCI #41's thats the prime used in USA military 5.56, its the hardest small rifle primer cup made. Mine's a tack driver, I'm sure you will have fun with it. The only problem with going from a hornet to the bee is brass availibity. Hornets are easy to get here, Bee brass is a bugger to find. The manufactures only make it once a year.
Those are fun guns and the triggers can really be honed to a crisp break, mine breaks at about 3 1/2# and I put a set screw through the rear of the guard for over travel.

Bob - try Wholesale Sports in Montana. The parent store in Edmonton (same name) usually has .218Bee brass in stock.

aromakr yes the block has been bushed, I also installed a new firing pin along with a fresh extractor. Thanks for the primer tip, I'll keep an eye on things when I do some load development over the chrony hopefully next weekend.

I was lucky enough to grab bag of Winchester brass a few years ago and then I found a bucket of mixed 218/25-20 brass last year. Interestingly I found a single 22 Jet case also in the bucket !!

I'm in the process of building another Cadet but in this time in 41 Rem Magnum, already got the dies and brass just waiting on a mate to do a barrel order from the US. Plan is to keep it to 18 inches and have a peep installed.

pablo- please go through the brass and separate the 25/20's from the .218Bee brass. I've been advise the .25/20 and .32/20 are lighter in construction.
New .218Bee brass is incredibly strong and easily takes modern pressures, or whatever the action is good for with a case that size, with a .408" rim.

Daryl:
I did finally find some brass at of all places Cabela's.
Pablo:
I was working up some loads for my Mashburn bee yesterday and found "Lilgun" to give fantastic velocity's with a 40 gr. sierra, now for accuracy tests. I had always used H4227, but now experimenting with Lilgun and AA1680.

Unfortunatly Lil gun is unavailable downunder so I'll probably stick to our locally made ADI 2205 (H4227, trimmed a bit more timber off the forend, now I just got to remove the old bedding and redo.

Happy to hear peoples thoughts on how to lightened the trigger ?
