Is that distance for longer barrels rifles or for lighter caliburs?

You could see them quite often in those older british-made mauser and steyr rifles whose fore end stock is shorter than most factory current ones and barrels longer too. Caliber doesn´t mean so much.

I always thought that the Brits positioned the front sling mount so that when the rifle is on your shoulder, the muzzle will be level or just below the top of your head, so as to not catch on anything. Could be wrong but the buggers did do most things for a practical reason.

I was looking at an old Husqvarna 640 in 9,3x62 yesterday with a FN98 action. Started thinking of buying it, the rifle store wanted 150$ for it. Could be a nice project. And after seeing these pics.........

Hi Gabe

Thanks for your response, the objective was to produce a practical one gun hunting rifle that I could pass on to one of my sons when I am too old!

The blueing job was achieved via low pressure bead blasting with fine media. The pics were shot with my mobile phone.....

Guys
The position of the sling attachment was to intended to aid a low carry of the rifle in the bush i.e. below the top of my head when I am standing upright.

coll416,
can you PM me in regard to the work you got done in Townsville please?
I need a few things looked at & tidied up. I have nothing fancy like yours mate but it certainly gave me a few ideas! Also can you add in the engravers contact No if you remember also?
Cheers
