Mr. Coker truely does need a 12 step program for all things Fraser. But as far as addictions go; there are worse:)

very expensive, I've seen a few Fraser 6.5's go for less than $2k, one which a mate has.

Yes, guilty as charged! You know, three years ago I watched a cased Fraser magazine rifle with its Davidson Telescopic sight sell for $14k USD. It is truly exquisite, as most Frasers are. And that is certainly less than what I'd charge to build it with Mr. MikeRowe's Davidson quick release mounts on top with an appropriate vintage scope, and have it cased up correctly! If the new barrel was done correctly and follows the Fraser profile (which it appears to do at the breech, and which I have measurements of) this one could still a bit interesting.

I'd certainly like to know about the next Fraser 6.5 that goes for less than $2k! I'm curious, were the Fraser 6.5's you mention build on Dutch Mannlicher's, Mannlicher Schoenhauer's, or Mauser's. Accordingly, I'd be interested to know which 6.5 they were: .256 Dutch (6.5x53R), .256 Mannlicher (6.5x54mm), or one of Fraser's own .256 Velox, or something else? Would be appreciative of any information you could provide.

Stephen I may have a few pics of the Fraser 6.5x53R on an old hard drive. I did have a opportunity to buy the said rifle for about $1500 a few years ago, but as I already had an old greek action ready to be rebarreled I passed it up.

What is seared into my memory was the slickness and the way the bolt snapped shut, it was the smoothest of any Mannlicher I've ever handled. My Cousin has also nice example of a Portugese 6.5x53R and a few hundreds.

Seems a bit expensive and will be interesting to see how long before it sells. If it sells the price was right.

Don I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the health of the old gun market ? are values anything close to pre GFC or are buyers being alot more disconcerning and only going after rifles with strong provenance ? Cheers

mckinney: I have reached a point in life where it is time to leave the collecting hobby. I have specialized in Mauser Sporters for the past 20 years and have enjoyed every minute of it. pablo: People have the option to invest in the stock market, real estate, gold, coins, etc., but to put together a good quality firearms collection for both personal enjoyment & solid investment for the future is hard to beat. Mauser, for example, built around 126,000 Sporters and I'll bet there are less than 2000 collector grade rifles left on the planet. The basic principle of supply & demand. The way the world economy is going, with all the worthless currency being printed, you will not regret investing in fine firearms. Thats my best advice.

Don, thanks for the reply. Sorry to learn that you are no longer collecting, but I've had similar thoughts myself. I sometimes think it would be nice to keep a few favorites (not necessarily collectables) and sell off the rest. My problem is I don't get the chance to shoot as much as I'd like.

As for prices, I've noticed some softening from a few years ago although I can't offer any specific evidence. The highly collectable bolt guns like London rigbys, early G&H, and high condition Oberndorf Mausers seem to be holding their own however. If anything is overpriced I would say it's English double rifles. If you look at what a 'golden age' double cost new, and what it costs now, the appreciation wildly exceeds any reasonable measure - except the cost of a new one.

I hope we will continue to see you in these pages.

Your Fraser is quite nice and any Fraser is a bit of a rare object. That's something that I think get's lost when people first balk at seeing the price of one of his magazine rifles or single shots. The same can be said for most Scottish makers.

Would love to have a copy of that picture of the Fraser Dutch Mannlicher if you could find it. I've amassed a bit of a large portfolio of pictures of Fraser guns and rifles, and I only have one picture of a Fraser Dutch Mannlicher. I presently have many of these pictures, tracings, and measurements from Frasers hanging on my shop walls and above my bench as inspiration and so that I don't loose sight of my design goals in the rifles I build!
