What spider is this
      #2192 - 26/03/03 07:52 PM

King Baboon,

This is right up your alley identify this spider please it had bloody big fangs so it didn't escape my rath but I took this picture for you first. It was big it would have covered a normal CD with it's body and legs. Found it last Saturday night in our bathroom. We have lots of them around but this one so far was the biggest they normally come out after or before rain.

Anyway check it out

S-H

Looks a little like the "Huntsman" species that we have here in Australia and probably elsewhere as well.

They have long legs and are grey with black bits like the photo. They also have big fangs but are not poisonous. Nevertheless they can cause infection.

They leave long and light web strands in your house and are pretty good at jumping - ie if you miss squashing one and it jumps right past your head.

From my vast knowledge of spiders, I'd say that this is one of those BIG mothers! Definitely one that I'd not mess mith! One can of Raid coming up!

Nitro i`m not trying to correct you just warn you that our huntsman spider is a dangerous species.
Dr.Straun Sutherland the CSIRO`s (and worlds) foremost authority on venomous creatures thought as most did that they were harmless until a colleague was bitten in the lab and was seriously ill for three days of pain--howzat mate all those huntsmen that have walked up your leg from the woodpile etc that you flicked off could have been bad.
I always jump on the bastards now with vengeance.
My guess that the one in the pic is a DUNNY spider one of the really bad ones.

Well I've been squashing them for years - none of this catch and release crap for me.

too right --every spider apparently is venomous but to varying degrees, old daddy long legs they tell me is a very venomous spider but due to its body configuration not that dangerous to man--dont know and dont want to find out either.

Ann, be careful! One thing I learned in Viet Nam was not to mess with the Aussies. Hell, just look at their so called game of football! I played rugby for 14 years, but I think rugby's a sissy game compared to Aussie Rules Football.

Guys,

I seriously would love to get boxes of Australian bugs and spiders and what ever else ya got there. Myself and another co-worker are serious bug collectors. For that matter, besides bugs I collect skulls. Send me some roo and possum skulls and hey, how about a Tazmanian devil skull? It's probably asking a lot for a koala skull....

Y'all got a lot of fancy lizards and snakes I'd like to have too. My favorite............? Shingle Back Skinks!

Frederic,

I am in no way a specialist in spiders other than tarantulas, but I can tell you for sure this isn't a tarantula... Looks like a big wolfspider to me (Lycosidae). It sure is ugly
Thanks for posting the picture anyway!
