not exactly hunting

Interesting to see the leopard, but what a boring way to pretend to hunt leopard, ie harvest a leopard for someone's bragging trophy wall. Better titled "Three fat men on a bakkie surrounded by a cage".

There was a story John that it was a "cattle killer" (of course) and it was a cull thus...yeah right, lots of handshaking eh!

Still the old freckle may have puckered a little when the cat stuck its head over the top haha.

I thought it was illegal to shoot from a vehicle ? Mind you can you imagine what it must have been like tiger hunting on the back of an elephant all those years ago ! Those howdah pistols must have been useful sometimes best

Having the leopard head stick over their "cage" must have puckered it a bit, yes, JG. Maybe the outfitter needs to invest in a mesh top for bakkie "cage".

I think the backslapping for such a crap "shoot" of a game animal was a bit disgusting.

Mike, yeah I suppose on the back of an elephant could be compared. But tigers are used to elephant, probably the season, they sometimes ended up on the elephants back amongst the howdah.

There`s certainly no comparison between tiger /elephant days and truck leopard days such as this.

Why would they bother posting that? Not much of a story to go with one's leopard hunt!

I've never hunted anywhere but the US, Canada and Mexico(North America) so I have no real basis for comparison of hunting big cats else where in the world BUT for a real hard days hunt that culminates in taking a big cat I highly recommend hunting Mountain Lions from horse back with a pack of well trained dogs. I've done it several times in the Wind River Mountains in Wyoming and I can honestly say that I've yet to find anything that compares to it for open chase hunting. I've never thought it was all that dangerous because by the time we caught up with the Mountain Lion it was already tree'd or trapped on a ledge by the dogs, so the kill shot was an easy one to take with little or no excitement involved but the chase getting to that point was outstanding.

I've heard a few stories of guys wounding tree'd mountain lions and having them end up on the horse with them but I've never had it happen to me.

Guys, I wasn´t comparing this nonsense with the old days, merely commenting that having a big cat 1 foot from your face in the old days on an ele must have been BLOODY exciting, best

I have seen ads for leopard hunting using hounds. In the terrain they were in it doesn't look like the game would tree. How else would you run one with dogs? If you didn't use hounds is the only alternative hunting leopard from a blind over bait?
