European Rifles Only Hunt
      #217980 - 15/10/12 10:19 AM

Once again Pato was determined for me not to use my new Rigby. This weekends hunt was declared European Only. When I pointed out Britain was part of Europe the parameters were tightened to exclude Britain. Rifles used are as photos below.Left to right Raick Ferez 450/400, Raick Ferez .375 Flanged, Simson .318, Mannlicher Schoener 9.5x57.

Two old scrub bulls come together, my moneys on the Poley one.

Pato finally learns to use the camera and I take a shot

Some of these Bulls have a hard life.

Scrub Bull taken with the 450/400
Below is Patos bull, rifle is the .318

My Buffalo taken with the .375 Flanged

Patos Buff taken with the 9.5x57

Photo below of the old dingo ,well past his prime who seemed to be attracted by the smell of the cooking. We just had to tolerate him in the end.

Good shooting. How do you like the 375F on Buffalo?

I don't like it anywhere near as much as the 450/400. The rifle itself isn't as comfortable to shoot. A well placed shot in the heart lung area certainly pulled the buffalo up but I would prefer the 450. Definitely hits harder. I swapped back to the 450 after this bull. Both rifles are lightweight and a pleasure to carry around.

Great photos. Impressive. Looks like a good day was had.

Clay next time remind Pato that the Rigby is a mauser design-if we are talking bolt actions- and hence of Euro origin

Good stuff Claydog and Pato.

Love the photos, and especially the classic rifle line up.

When I read your pre-requisites for armaments for the hunt being "European" rifles only. I thought about that, and realised only one of my firearms is not European. But some are English though. Us Aussies go to Europe and talk about the UK AND Europe which our European friends do take exception to - "What do you mean 'England' AND Europe!?"
