My good mate Steve (Viking338) came out for the weekend to see me and shoot some pigs.
He normally comes every 6 to 8 weeks but has been busy so hasn't been for awhile.

He was shooting with his CZ 7.62x39 loaded with 150 grain Speer projectiles that worked really well. He pulled of some great shots with it.

Saturday morning saw us hunting my main place with George and the 4 wheeler. We got 11 pigs before the rain drove us home to a bottle of Bourbon and some movies.

Steve shot this Black and white boar on the run.

I was using my new 6.5x47 that Tony Small built for me.
Shot through some lignum to score this one. This is an entry so it must of hit something on the way in.

Got up early this morning and went back to the same place but in my ute as it was still sticky after the rain.
We walked some sandhills and lignum and got 19 for the morning.

Saw this track. It is either a dog track or the biggest fox in the world.

Steve head shot this little boar on the run.
After exiting the projectile hit this tree in two places.

I loaded up four 120 grain Speer 120's with 38 grains of 2208 to see how they would go on pigs and to see if I could get one back.
Here is the heart after the little 120 went through it.

Here is a recovered 120 grain Speer.

Had a bit of trouble with the Fed Small rifle Mag primer cratering so went to CCI BR4's.
The top two are Fed mag primers with 37 grains of 2208 and the 123's.
The bottom two are BR4's with 38 grains of 2208 and the 120 grain Speers.

Went to another place this arvo and got 27 pigs.
Duke has now caught 287 pigs.

This was the biggest boar the dogs caught.

This is how a dog can get hurt in the timber or get away from a dog.

Nasty little tusks.

So we ended up with 57 pigs for the weekend.

Neale that is a good haul for the weekend. Those Speers look like they will do the job.

The Fed primers make it look like your fireing pin hole needs bushing or a stronger spring, the primers have not flatterned out so the pressure cant be too high. As somebody said soft primers.

George and Duke seem keen as usual,

What scope has Steve go on his 7.62X39? Great little rifle.

He has a fixed 4 power Nikon.

The Fed primers are soft and the BR4's solved that issue.
Might try CCI mag primers as well.

Well just arrived at the airport to fly out again for work (oh well it pays the bills so I can hunt more )

Neale my friend, THANK YOU once again for you hospitality and putting me amongst the pigs for another great weekend of hunting. The fast and furious shooting when a mob breaks cover is always my favorite.

The little CZ once again shone in it's intended role of an accurate nice carbine but with "sufficient" punch to get the job done when I do my bit. While it is nothing like my 9.3x62 the little 7.62x39 does an admirable job when hand loaded with slightly heavier projectiles. As Neale knows it is the smallest of my Mauser style actions but is fast becoming a favorite for this type of hunting and the 4x Nikon suits it well.

I can return to work relaxed and a big smile

Thanks again mate.

Viking you have what I call the Russian 30-30 I do like those carbine CZ's.

Enjoy work while thinking about your next hunt.

Yes loading the 150 grainers transformed it and I think there is still room to move on the velocity, although it does shoot nice tiny groups at the moment pretty little sweet handling thing it is too!

Enough said about work hey!!!! Haha

Amazing difference just in the primers, Neale & with a full grain more powder with the BR4's. Those 'disked' primers almost let go & actually look like what a weak firing pin spring does. a bit of cratering from a large hole, as on most CZ 527's is slightly different as that shows a full dtrike, with flow. Pushed back material like that is either weak cups or weak spings. In this case, a week cup as you surmised and proved.

CCI Small Rifle Magnum primers (450's) have the thicker jackets as well as do RP 7 1/2's. Those three are the same and thickest of all. The Remingtons were developed for the .17Rem which was hard on primers of the 1960's. The 7 1/2's were the response and CCI followed suit with the BR4's and SML Rfl. Mags.

Nice performance form that hot core and the little 6.5.
