Crazy day,even for me!
      #216321 - 08/09/12 03:19 PM

Got up at 4am to go to a place I used to work at 10 years ago. It is only 120 km from here but have never worried about going back there as I have plenty of country here.
Had a cup of tea with the old bloke who owns it the other day and asked if there were many pigs.
He said there was more than ever and come down anytime I want.

On the way down and still 30 km from the place the old red girl finally let me down.
The gearbox is gone and I only had 1st and 3rd gear so did the last 30 km in 3rd.

Unloaded the bike and only went 800 yards and came across pigs.
Got 8 of them with the dogs and my Zastava 9.3x62.

A water coarse that runs through the place.

Recovered 286 grain Hornady.

First pig with my Husky 9.3x57.

So at 10.30am my dogs were rooted, I had run out of bullets for the 9.3x62 and had 9 left for my 9.3x57 so came home. I saw over 100 pigs for the morning and only did about 2/3rds of the 30 000 acre place.

Most of the pigs were small and I didn't get any big boars but they will be there. Every sand hill had a camp in it and even I could smell the pigs before you saw them.
Looking forward to going back now I know my way around a bit with some new fences and cleared country.

Broke my own record with 51 pigs for the morning on my own with my priviest best of 36 for a morning.

After the excitement I still had to drive 120 kms home in 3rd gear.

Gearbox should be cheap from the spares broker, but 51 pigs?
Dang.
That'll keep you busy.

How many miles on the transmission?
The 9.3 looks nice.

Cheers

Is the 9.3x57 a new rifle? May have missed a post if you have posted about it.

I think you must spend a fair amount of time reloading. (ie with all the shooting).

286 Hornady looks about perfect - 9.3x62 or 9.3x57? I'm surprised it didn't exit, but then they are 'compact' targets.

You have too much fun - now for the work.

Your Husky is in lovely shape - did you or someone else refinish it? Drilled and tapped bridges? They sure are nice shooting rifles. I love mine. It's a favourite for sure.

The Hornady 286 was fired from my 9.3x62.
The pig was about 35 kg and copped the bullet in the south end and I found it in its voice box.
The other 24 I had all exited.

The Husky is untouched and will remain that way.
It's great to shoot.

I picked the Husky up Wednesday.
It's in great condition.

As to the reloading, great problem to have most would agree.

Hi Neale,

You DO live in Paradise... and to call it work is an excuse that one can only wish they had to do.

Cheers Mate,

Jeff

Good to see the Husky in action for the ideal game for it.

I guess I'll have to purchase some of the Hornady SP's. I think the 270gr. speers would be too soft is driven over 2,200fps. I ran them at 2,300fps (9.3x57) and had what I thought was less than stellar penetration on a 200yard moose. Anchored the moose though.

Neale, with those sows looking to be in the family way you may of shot more pigs than you counted.
