Safari to Zimbabwe
      #214518 - 13/08/12 06:08 PM

Has anyone gone to Zim recently. My last trip was 2010 but this time the paperwork is impossible.Customs will no longer issue a Restricted goods permit, they sent me to Dept. of defence for a Prohibited Goods permit, they feel they can longer do that and sent me to DFAT for a ministerial clearance before Defence will issue their permit which I then have to take back to Customs.I am being FEKUD over!!!!
Any advice?

Sounds like a hell of a round around. Perhaps on purpose.

Are you taking anything with which might causing extra problems? Possibly a calibre equal or greater than .500?

Which city are you telephoning around in? Sydney? Melbourne? ?

Maybe someone who has travelled recently can chime in.

Sounds like a big ffff around to me.

BTW it is customs responsibility isn't it? Try going up the food chain ...

Someone told me to get two sets of tickes issued. One to and from South Africa, the other to Zim from South Africa and back. This is because of current sanctions.

And just a few months ago, Customs certainly were issuing the RPG.

BTW, to make my first post more clear: I have NOT been to Zim, that's just what I heard.

I take it this thread is about traveling to Zim from Australia. Sorry to hear that it is such trouble and possibly not feasible.

So I guess I shouldn't complain about the TSA here in the U.S. breaking my ammunition box open on our return home, even though I had declared it and told the TSA guy in Chicago that my ammunition was in my second bag in a locked box.

To their credit, they did slip a form into my bag, which included an apology about the possible need to break locks to ensure safety, in my own best interest, blah blah blah...

50 bazillion dollars on security scanners and everything else under the sun, but we are gong to break open your locks anyway.

When your government destroys your private property (even a $10.00 lockbox) and tells you that it's for your own good, there is definately something wrong.

Not Democrat vs. Republican, or Liberal vs. Conservative, but government completely out of control, which they would probably tell you is in your best interest anyway.

I have no doubt that a declared terrorist would get through because he had ticked off the right boxes in the correct sequence. It galls me every time I deal with these morons in any country I have visited. The Germans have been the best, but when even they cannot figure out what German made binoculars do and how they work, it leaves me with a sick and queasy feeling.
