Interesting!

No reason why a 760 Remington could not be barreled up in 9.3x62. Afterall, it was made in .35 Whelen for a while. The Remington M742 could also be barreled up and chambered for the 9.3x62mm case.

The French rifle has a far more robust forend than the Remington. It should be easier to sight in off the bench as a result. The short barrel will be louder than its Remington cousin.

G'Day Fella's,

Just on the Rem 7600 rifle for a moment.
Among other things, www.lumleyarms.com (located in Sydney Oz) have advertised on their web page, spare Rem 7600 barrel brackets/barrel extensions for 7600 rifles!
This will give any 7600 owner, the ability to make you 7600 into a Switch Barrel rifle!
That is, with any cartridge with the same bolt head (.243/.260/.308/.338Fed etc or .25-06/.270/.280/.30-06/.35W/.9.3x62 etc or .223/.300 Whisper, etc)!

Just a bit of an insight into the quality of their other products. I have two Lumley Arms 316S/S DBM (Detachable Box Magazine/Bottom Metal) units (for Rem 700) and they are exceedingly well designed and made and work flawlessly!!!

Hope that helps

Doh!

Are you allowed pump action rifles down under? I knew pump actioned shot guns were a no-no, I just assumed that pump actioned ( and semi automatic) rifles were lumped in with them.

G'Day Fella's,

Thank you for asking Albertan!
Lucky for us, our slimy, dumb politicians and their even dumber advisers (public servants and police), didn't even know about or had forgotten about, Pump Action centerfire rifles.
Because of this government ignorance, we are at present still allowed to own them!

The scary thing about this is, these are same people that a lot of Australians are relying on for their protection, if or when the stuff hits the fan!
From what I have seen and heard of them, they couldn't organise a Drink in a Brewery!!!

Doh!

I've a 760 switch barrel rifle with barrels in 376 Steyr(requires a separate bolt with opened bolt face), 9.3x62, 338x06, 30-06,'270', and 416x06 imp. All larger than 30 were rebored from early barrels with dovetail rear sights. Be careful with the barrels with screwed on sights as the holes are pretty deep. Cliff LaBounty did some of the rebores and Jim Dubell did the 9.3. All are top notch. Results in a unique rifle with many attributes different from a bolt gun. Barrels can be swapped in a couple of minutes with only a 6"piece of drill rod to use as a wrench for loosening/tightening the under barrel rod/nut.

Anything can be done, but a 375 Ruger 760 would require major changes to accomplish, and uber time to get to feed dependably. The 376 Steyr is about the largest "practical"case for 760 conversion, and the 9.3x62 makes even more sense...especially if you want to a 270 or 280 companion barrel. A 9.3 and 270 would both feed from the same clip, use the same bolt, etc.

A .376 Styer should satisfy at 80gr. capacity. That will drive a 300gr. easily at 2,500fps and 270's at 2,650fps. (current Hornady data)

1912 .375H&H data and the ballistics that made the ctg. famous in Africa, was a 270gr. at 2,600fps and a 300 at 2,400fps - both tested in 28" tubes, I'd expect. Subtract roughly 100fps for normal barrel specs.

There are no flies on the smaller cased .375's.

I recently re-barreled a Rem 760 in 9.3x62, for a paraplegic customer and he took it up to the Territory and whalloped several pigs and a couple of water buff, with it. Very handy piece of ordinance.
