What is the consensus of the quality of these rifles? They certainly are beautiful.

I saw this movie about a week ago..unfortunatly I don't agree with those who think this is the best bond movie ever...don't agree it even hits the top five...while it is entertaining...it certainly seems to have been neutered down compared to the older 007 movies...IMHO..

Ripp - 'Ol Dann'l Craig sure do run around a bit, don't he. Can't catch up 'less he burns shoe leather. Plus, the scenery isn't much, either.

The new "Q"? Poor, poor. Did you know that the old "Q" was run down and killed by a drunk driver? Probably traumatized the drunk so badly that Her Majesty's Government had to give him medical care for five years, lots of money, plus a new car and a few pints.

I didn't think much of "Skyfall".. In the past, the title would have reference something interesting, not a farm.

... and I sure miss the JB theme at the beginning of the credits.

I won't see another one with 'Ol Dann'l. Too bad, 'cause I've seen them all since Dr. No.

I loved Skyfall - one of the best - a gritty film plot, Scottish mountains DB 5, beautiful yacht and double rifle - what's not to like?

I've chatted to Stuart Anderson Wheeler a couple of times on the phone and they make a small number of double rifles per year. They have been in business for about nine years so while not a long time, long enough that they are established.

Would be good to hear from any owners about their rifles, but I would guess more will be around in the future considering the exposure of the rifle in the Bond movie. Reportedly rifles from Holland & Holland, Purdey and Anderson Wheeler were considered and Anderson Wheeler won the sale. The rifle is now owned in the personal collection of the Producer (or Director) I believe.

The use of a British DR in the movie will no doubt benefit the sales of lots of other brands of DR as well, I would think.

The hunting set are gunning for Bond

01 November 2012

Our story yesterday about James Bond’s ghillie telling Daniel Craig in Skyfall “This is your father’s hunting rifle” being a possible solecism has provoked huge correspondence. In Britain, we “hunt” with hounds not with rifles. However, the gun handed to Bond is not a shotgun (as we said) or a hunting rifle but a big-game rifle.

“Americans have hunting rifles but the British use stalking and big-game rifles,” explains Jonathan Young, editor of The Field. “The double-barrelled rifle wielded so deftly by Commander Bond is an Anderson Wheeler .500 Nitro Express big-game rifle, usually employed on large dangerous game, such as buffalo, but also, in 007’s hands, effective on Mercedes and helicopters.”

Would Bond’s father have such a gun on his Scottish grouse moor? “A lot of landowners had rifles for big-game hunting,” says Young.

Yes and after that he can come to the US illegally, and have free health care, food stamps and whatever he may need...all for the asking...

As for Q--WTH??? Don't think you'd want to drop the soap in the shower if he was around...

The entire movie lacked the intensity/creativity of the old Bond movies..wish I could say differently, but just didnt feel it on this one...

Finally got to see the movie tonight. Personally really enjoyed it, and don't agree with the criticisms. But each to their own.

The Q character, yes, not a good choice. A modern metro choice and given far too much time in the movie.

The .500 NE, yep, no recoil at all in the movie. Very un-realistic.

But other than that, enjoyable and a vast improvement on the previous one - solace, whatever it was called.
