The way it ought to be....
      #213076 - 20/07/12 11:05 AM

Dad and I finally got to take my ten year old son hunting together on a recent trip to New Zealand.

I travelled with my wife and our son down under for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. While there Dad jacked up a good place for Nathan to hunt red deer and hopefully get a stag.

I started Nathan hunting with me at about four years old and he killed his first deer at seven. In fact, he got two bucks that year. He now has five whitetails for five rounds.

We got into quite a few deer, and Nathan had to make a quick shot, but one bullet through the liver had the stag dead inside 40 yards. Dad was very impressed with his shooting.

He used Dad's Anschutz .222, so it takes a precise shot. In fact, Dad said he can have it when he gets too old to hunt any more. I don't know when that'll be, he's almost 77, and last year dropped a Fallow on the spot at 297 metres with that rifle. He's not showing any signs of giving up yet.

The stag wasn't a big one, but it's a real trophy to us.

Click on the pictures to enlarge them.

And if we needed some more firepower, my brother had the tool....

A huge Thanks goes out to our friend Roger Gullery, our host on this hunt.

G'day, and congratulations to the young bloke on a fine trophy! That is indeed the way it should be. Three generations! I can't wait to do something similar! Cheers!

Mike that would be a great hunt. The young bloke shooting so well with dad and granddad there.

Have to ask how come your brother has a tank in his back yard?

A wonderful experience to remember for the young bloke, not to mention Dad and Granddad.

For some reason I can't get the photos to load up. Used various methods.

What sort of tank is it?

Thanks for the comments, fellas. It was indeed a great hunt. Nathan and I are going to have to start taking turns at the shots. He's killed more deer in the last three years than I have!

The tank is a 1943 Valentine MkV, probably classed as medium at 18 tonnes combat weight. Power is from a 6-71 Detroit Diesel, and it has a 2" gun.
Andrew has Stewarts under restoration, and has done a Scorpion. He just sold a Bren carrier, but still has a restored Lloyd carrier and I believe enough parts for another Valentine.

I'm not sure what the deal is with the photos, John. CptCurl said he'd be home soon, and I told him he'd probably have to fix up my mess. If you'll click on the Photobucket link below, the pictures are in the album.

That young man has a very good begining ton a long hunting career! It's good thing that he has such a pair of role models to show him the path of a sportsman!
My Granddad led the way for me back in the day also.

I couldn't get anything to load, the photo links, the album, the individual and direct photo files. Probably was due to MY connection and wireless strength.

Works for me now that a stronger signal is operating.

I've always wanted my own tank. Cool pic.
