10ga H&R to 8ga?
      #212557 - 12/07/12 11:13 AM

I think that I saw this posted somewhere, but is it possible to rebarrel one of the 10ga single shots to 8ga, if reasonable loads are to be used for a ball gun?
I know little about the 8 and my copy of Greener's book is buried somewhere.

Any help in this project would be appreciated.

Thanks

Tom

Can't help you with the loads etc, but the post you saw was this

http://forums.nitroexpress.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=44720&page=0&fpart=11&vc=1

That page makes mention of the 8 gauge rebore about half way down, the next page has the pic.

Cheers,
Ash.

Thanks Ash, that was what I was thinking of. Seems reasonable, just still not too sure of the wall thickness although at the pressures that would be run, probably well within the realm of acceptable.

Another question: does anyone have a load chain for a round ball at 1050fps in a nitro for black that would fall into the acceptable presusre range?

Also, what is the proper case length for an 8 like that (or is there an option?)

Thanks

Tom

Actually regarding loads, just looking for something simple (relatively) that would let me know what I was getting into. I don't have the Wright book, although I have seen some data out there in the past. It doesn't appear that components are an issue as wads and cases are available. My only concern would be bore diameter vs what type of case I would be using so that it would be chambered properly.

In regards to loads, contact Ed Hubel, of the thread linked above. Search his email, he generally replies fairly quickly and is more than willing to give the information requested of him!

Sorry this took so long to reply to! Any advancement in the project?

BTW I received another 16 of Graeme's books sent to me just before he left for the South African big bore shoot. Will be put up for sale again.
