BEEN WATCHING
      #212385 - 09/07/12 07:52 PM

A mob of sambar feeding out from cover right at the end of the day,not every day mind you as the last two trips into the zone yielded sfa. Still waiting to see if the old boy will show me some skin.I have a day pic of him that is just so so.

Taken over a couple of late evenings a week or so ago.

Thanks for comments.

Staffan they are actually colour shots but due to the light appear to be B+W. I didnt change them to B+W on my comp.

John

The Stag in the first picture, is that a young stag or an old one going backwards ?

Looks like their more than one stag (with decent length antlers, not the spikers).

What's the go with them ?

Nige they are all young stags, they fight a lot with vigour and snap a few tines here and there, there is fairly reasonable goodish blood amongst them.

here is an example from across the gully same area.

Just managed to get this one in the pic, have to be bloody quiet as they arent too far off me.

Love your photo's Gryph,
Simple, clear, crisp and very real. They put me there in the bush with the deer.
Great work, keep it up.
Always look forward to them.
Best
ALEX

JG the hard working sambar hunting. One of the keenest in the amount of hours he puts in I think.

Is it unusual to see a half dozen at a time?

Very unusual John, unless in a water catchment area where there is nil hunting.Nine sambar showed up on one of these evenings above but i could only get six in pic at a time.
They mill around on the edge of cover seemingly reluctant to move then one makes the break = coast is clear and the rest come out with their heads down feeding like cattle coming into a new paddock as seen above.
These deer are a long way from any of those areas though and are as wild as all sambar can be and its a real PITA to climb into where they are and they only show out of the impenetrable cover at the right time and only with the right weather.
I have climbed into the same spot a 100 times ( or more) only to see SFA on many occasions.
The knees are always knocking by the time I get to the bottom of the hill as it is a steep bastard alright.
The stag feeding in the early morn pic is a pretty fair sort of animal,he is a candidate so far until I get a good look at him.I have only seen him the once though.

Thanks AB,comments as yours are always well received as its no easy job much of the time.
