The long and the short of it.
      #210591 - 10/06/12 03:14 PM

With the demands of of my new job I have not been able to get out into the bush for awhile now but with the long weekend at my disposal I headed out to Neale's (FATBOY404) for some pig chasing.
I used my new little CZ 7.62x39 (bought it for my Daughter) loaded with 150 grain Speer Hot cores @ 2100 fps.
Their performance is a big step up from the 123 grain factory Highland ammo I was using.

Neale was using his Brno ZKK 602 in 375 H&H loaded with 300 grain North Fork Cup Point Solids @ 2600 fps.

Here is a rifle comparison.

A bullet comparison.

We got 38 pigs for the two mornings.
Here is my best boar with the x39.

A couple of projectiles recovered from the pigs.

Here are a couple more.

Neale's best boar.

A swamp where we were hunting.

Found a couple of Bower birds nest today.

Well-done! One day I hope to strike it rich at a bower bird nest!

Me too mate but all I get are 303 shells and ear tags.

Steve.
Was good to catch up mate and have some success again.

That little CZ is such a joy to carry and so handy on the bike in the scrub. We both know how well it works with those 150's.
Got yourself a bolt action 30-30 I reckon.

Viking, well done. Great photos and good write up.

Both rifle performed well and you flattened a few pigs, good to see. A good find on the Bower Birds nest.

Viking

How do you find the CZ 7.62x39 rifle? Accuracy? Functioning?

Is that the original stock, or an improved custom stock?

Thanks.

Hi Nitro, yes fine. Stock is original just had Jim Kent bed and float and trigger job then just fired some groups with Highland 123gr factory and groups around 1.5". Then thought to get serious and loaded up the 150's I had left over from my 303 and got under an inch and thought great. Feeds great and trigger is beautiful, put a nice little Nikon 4x on it and it was all nice. Great little thing for the bike, yes we all know it' s not my 9.3 x62 but you know I actually like the little beast. I really did think to get it as a nice little rifle for my daughter but she may not get it back

Good to see the BB mating bower pics in the post,I too appreciate the other things that abound to the discerning hunter that is into the whole package of being out there.

Thanks Gryphon, I truly do enjoy the quiet times observing nature while I am out hunting. One of the most memorable hunts I have had was when "Fatboy" and I slipped quietly down amongst a large mob of goats leaned against a tree and enjoyed watching all the interactions. This went on for almost half an hour and you will understand we were loath to break the moment, but truly a wonderful day that I will remember always. I do love your photo's they are always a highlight for me so thank you for enriching us all

Yes, that was something I had never noticed/seen before. Living in the city as I do it is a thing of beauty for me gaze at the stars out west and marvel at how many stars there actually are
