Something Different
      #210081 - 04/06/12 09:07 PM

Mixed hunts this weekend had to make the best of work commitments, doing a killer and short hunt opportunities. Killer butchered up fine and tastes very good BBQ T bones at the end of the butchering.
Did a quick sight in with the CZ 455 22mag and of after a pig. Walked a paddock that had been cleared and found two poddies that had survived a few days alone. Went back with Chris and Tammy on the quad and picked them up. Both have taken to the bottle, and are doing well. Dont know how the little one has survived. Very scrawny and only a few days old.
Chris and I got a few small pigs with the magnums. Heres some pics. Mick

Despite being thin the poddy looks in good condition considering. It doesn't take long to fill the greedy little bastards up.

Good shooting with the magnum Mick.

What's the meaning of "poddy"? Obviously an unweaned calf, but please explain. Thanks.

Once caught a kid during a feral goat hunt. Carried it back to camp, tried to get it to drink but it wouldn't so after about a day, shot it.

What are you going to do with the calves? Keep them at home until big enough to kill?

When I was young we had cattle and had to hand rear various calves over the years. Never a good thing to do with bulls if they are allowed to mature.

Having cattle was good fun. Got chased by many bulls and jumped fences etc to get away from them. Cattle are better fun than vines ...

Poddy - Not an expression I've ever heard.

(Proud to be a Pom this Jubilee weekend.)

The Oxford Dictionary tells me Poddy is an Australian slang word of unknown origin.
