Innogun Hybrid
      #208453 - 17/05/12 04:05 AM

A new adaptation of a pump action firearm with a break open second barrel - the Innogun Hybrid.

The lower barrel is a pump action repeater rifle, fed from a magazine. The upper barrel a break open single shot.

Barrels can be swapped easily. Variants could include a shotgun/rifle combination, twin differing rifle barrels - a Bergstutze, and a double rifle combination.

Releasing the safety cocks the firearm, but the rifle remains cocked when reloading, presumably through working the pump.

From the website:
Perfect for every situation

By combining a passion for hunting and innovative engineering, a hunting weapon has been developed which has set new standards. Conceived as a press hunting weapon, the INNOGUN HYBRID combines the advantages of a multi-barrel break-action weapon. Different calibres, safety and robustness, easy handling with rapidity and fire power are combined in a single weapon.

Rapid firing

The repeater unit under the barrel allows rapid and safe firing. At no time when reloading do the hands leave the pump action or the pistol grip. They remain in contact and thus guarantee continuous target tracking even when reloading. Rapid reloading is guaranteed through the use of a downward movement replacement magazine. Reloading of the upper barrel is achieved by breaking the complete barrel set.

Modular construction
The modular construction system enables the weapon to be adapted to individual requirements with only a few hand operations. Due to the knockdown ability of the barrel set it is possible to change calibre at any time, simply and economically! Every HYBRID can be converted from an over and under shotgun rifle to a ‘Bergstutze’ or a double barrel rifle. The lower barrel, the magazine and its breech can be changed as required within the product family. With individual combinations of the barrel set, is possible to achieve a multitude of barrel and calibre combinations in order to match the broad spectrum of game which can be legally hunted anywhere in the world. The integrated mounting point enables a flexible, repeatable robust sight mounting.

Uncompromisingly safe

With the HYBRID safety is the priority. The weapon is only cocked directly before firing. During repeat firing, the cocking slide is in the tensioned position and the weapon is immediately ready to fire again. The upper barrel is locked directly in the breech block using a hook part. A double row revolving head breech with three dimples locks directly into the lower barrel. This way, a high degree of safety and reliability is achieved

I wonder ....

How regulation is maintained when swapping barrels?

eg one could have the following:
1. Double rifle 9.3x62 set;
2. .222 upper and 8x57 lower repeater; and
3. 12 gauge upper and 7x64 lower repeater.
4. Any combination of the above?

Given the sights sit on the upper barrel, and a scope in QD mounts would also be mounted on the upper barrel, presumably a different scope might be needed for any and all combinations, but how would two rifle barrels maintain regulation?

The shotgun being only in the upper barrel limits performance. My feeling is a pump action repeating shotgun with a single shot rifle barrel would be more useful than a repeating rifle with a single shot shotgun.

What the balance of the firearm is like?

The weight of the firearm is reasonable compared to other repeater double rifle/combinations previously seen. IMO.

What do you guys think?

Looks like a really cool concept, but how will it hold up with though use? And how about the regualtion of all the different barrels, as NitroX mentioned. I see how much problem many people have regulating their regular free floating barrel double rifles, and how much time and ammunition they use to get the job done. And this one then with interchangeable barrels and parts must be a nightmare, but if they have found a way to make it ingeniously simple, this will be a success. But I`ve seen a Norwegian concept that looked a little like this with a shotgun barrel at the top, and pump rifle at the bottom, but that one went out of production pretty fast.

Even the price is based Innogun to this category of weapons: 4999 EUR are called for the hybrid.

It reminds me of a camel - designed by committee. I wonder what Greener would have thought of it...

My personal take - the shotgun barrel is fine - zeroing is not particularly critical here and it should be easy to pattern it on paper and see how it would shoot at shotgun ranges. The lower rifle barrel would be the one to be concerned about - changing calibers would be a problem as far as grouping is concerned. May be a better idea to have a rifle barrel on top so that the sights are on it and a change of barrel would bring a new set of sights which would be separately zeroed. This, of course, is the view of someone who was a boy when Moses wore shorts and who prefers open sights and not glass. That said, would the lower rifle barrel reduce recoil as compared to putting it on top?
