1st of all, to shoot deer one would be better off with interchangable chokes - to reduce choke for shooting slugs or ball for deer, and shot for birds and larger shot for fox.

What makes of guns are available to you?

Do you handload or must you use factory ammo?

A pump-gun with interchangable chokes would better serve, I'd thing and cost less.

If money is no impediment to purchasing something expensive, then I'd pick something in a high priced Italian Double and have them make me a couple rifled chokes for it.

The effective range would be the range at which I could hit with ammunition that was effective. Usually 60yards max on grouse-type birds, 40yards with large shot, like BB for fox and possibly 100yards on deer with slugs IF the gun shot the available ammunition accurately enough.

India doesn't allow the import of any guns other than for ISSF match competition, Daryl. Imports were banned in 1984, as was the ownership of more than 3 firearms per individual.

Three firearms per person - does this include multiple barrels? Calibres? etc

Does it have to be only a shotgun?

If not I would look for a drilling with twin 12 gauge barrels and a medium calibre rifle underneath for deer, boar etc. 7x65R, 7x57R, .30-06, .308, 8x60S, 8x57R etc would all be good choices.

It sounds like you are providing a job description for a Paradox gun. Holland & Holland made them for many years and they make them today. Most of the older ones had 2-1/2" chambers but there were a few made with 2-3/4". The guns made since 2003 all have chambers of at least, and perhaps only, 2-3/4".

The paradox gun is a special kind of ball-and-shot gun with a rifled choke. You shoot standard shotgun shells in it and the patterns are generally from Improved Cylinder to Light Modified (in my experience). When you want to shoot bigger animals you flip up a rifle sight and then, instead of shotgun shells, you insert Paradox cartridges.

I have owned a few Paradox guns and shot some others. I own a couple now, a 1887 with hammers and a 2011 round action hammerless. They are very versatile. I had a 1911 Paradox gun that I used for 90% of all my shooting. I shot sporting clays, grouse, chukar (partridges), pheasant, one bobcat, and two deer. I also took it to Argentina where I used it to shoot doves and a collared peccary. I traded the 1911 gun in on the new one. I will be using the new Paradox gun next month on a bear hunt in Idaho.

Other people who frequent this forum have used Paradox guns on birds and big game in Africa. I have been told that in days past, it was the perfect gun for British officers stationed in India.

Slightly off topic.

Grenadier you have a couple of good looking guns there. I like the way you have set up your photo shoot.
