Just had this link for an online petition to have all trading in rhino everywhere banned by the EU. Code:
http://www.avaaz.org/en/save_rhinos/?sbc
(Link disabled, but you can copy and cut the link and paste to a new window if you feel the need. Greenie and Anti Link. NitroX)
The rhino is being hunted into extinction and could disappear forever unless we act now. Shocking new statistics show 440 rhinos were brutally killed last year in South Africa alone -- a massive increase on five years ago when just 13 had their horns hacked off. European nations could lead the world to a new plan to save these amazing creatures but they need to hear from us first!
Fueling this devastation is a huge spike in demand for rhino horns, used for bogus cancer cures, hangover remedies and good luck charms in China and Vietnam. Protests from South Africa have so far been ignored by the authorities, but Europe has the power to change this by calling for a ban on all rhino trade -- from anywhere, to anywhere -- when countries meet at the next crucial international wildlife trade summit in July.
The situation is so dire that the threat has even spread into British zoos who are on red-alert for rhino killing gangs! Let’s raise a giant outcry and urge Europe to push for new protections to save rhinos from extinction. When we reach 100,000 signers, our call will be delivered in Brussels, the decision-making heart of Europe, with a crash of cardboard rhinos. Every 50,000 signatures will add a rhino to the crash -- bringing the size of our movement right to the door of EU delegates as they decide their position. Sign the petition on the right then spread this campaign widely:

They are tied in with the Humane Society, as well as virtually every other anti-hunting group known. Please don't click on their link, unless you want to be inundated with propaganda from all these groups.

I completely disagree with these sorts of policies.
If for example a South African game farm is able to sustainably able offer a hunt of an excess rhino, why shouldn't someone be able to hunt one?
The trophy fee and hunting fees go towards the preservation and conservation of the species.
Ffffing Greenies and antis again. Cull a greenie/anti today and help conserve the human species ... only joking, pity ...

Rhinos are being killed in such unprecedented numbers that there are realistic fears they could be wiped from the face of the planet within a generation. If this happens, it will be the first major extinction of an animal in the wild since the worldwide conservation movement began.
The bare statistics are horrifying. In South Africa, more rhinos are being slaughtered for their horns in a single week than were killed in a whole year a decade ago. And the death toll is fast accelerating. In 2007, a mere 13 were killed. In 2008, it was 83, and, a year later, 122. Last year it was 448, and this year, by 19 April, it was 181. That is equivalent to 600 a year in a country which is home to 93 per cent of all white rhinos. One expert thinks that at this rate the species could be wiped out by 2025. Others think it could take longer. Patrick Bergin, chief executive of African Wildlife Foundation, said: "If the poaching of rhino continues at current rates, we could see their extinction within our lifetime. The situation is absolutely at crisis levels."

Police in South Africa have confiscated assets worth nearly $7m (£4m) from three suspected rhino poachers. The men, two of whom are vets, are already facing 1,872 charges of racketeering.

Did they stop shooting poachers? That should send a fairly strong message to those who set up these poaching organizations - shoot 'em all. If you must try them in court - by all means jump through the hoops - then shoot them.
Laws are NOT a deterent to those who wholeheartedly break them to make themselves wealthy. Same goes for drug dealers - kill them all - remove the problem.
In light of the current trends, I suppose that sounds a bit harsh. Tough.

Poachers have killed 455 rhinos so far this year in South Africa -- more than half in a single national park -- topping last year’s mark of 448, South Africa announced this week.

Agree with this...was talking about the poor little girl who was abducted and so brutal of a crime they needed DNA to identify here..if/when they catch him they should just drag him down the road for about 10 miles..have a feeling after that happened a time or two things would slow down..same principles should apply here...way too much of this political correctness bs going on...and how has that worked out???

Note there are also some funds, at least one, asking for public donations to "save the rhino" but when questioned can not supply decent information on how the money will be spent "saving rhinos". The old greenie fund trick to collect money for "job creation" purposes. Be aware.
