They weren't flying though.. But since theyre not a game bird i dont care for the sporting side of removing these buggers. They're soooo hard to get close to, same as indian myna's (another personal dislike of mine). Apologies for the phone pics and the 2nd pic being blurry, on a the phone screen it looked alright so didnt bother redoing it, wish i hadda realised the birds we're outta focus. Its a VG Bentley, as i bought it. First shotgun, went for the cheapest SxS i could find.

41 paces, 1 shot 2 birds, shotguns for the win! No4 shot. Pretty sure these are starlings..God i hope so since i'm posting this..

Hi Ash,

English starlings are a nuisance animal here in Virginia too, and the Game and Inland Fisheries Dept. authorized any legal means to dispense with them, any time of year. I like to sneak up on them and pot them with a S&W Model 41.

Take care, Tom

No starlings around here at the moment.

I remember my best ever result was about 14 for one shot, a .410 side by side ... of course, they were sitting on a branch in a tall gum. The only way to get the numbers is to listen carefully and counts the thuds.

Never got anywhere near as many with the 12-gauge.

Good shooting at that distance.

But those aren't starlings, they are the rare Australian native species, the spotted native black bird, said to be good eating if we were allowed to shoot them .....

Ha ha, only joking, just pest introduced starlings.

Now I was reading on the net, that they are considered a delicacy in Italy and/or Spain?

Anyone tried eating one?

John

I think Italy - they catch anything that flies and
turn it into a pie.

As the old nursery rhyme goes - 4 and 20 blackbirds baked in a pie. You don't usually get that many blackbirds together so maybe the pie was full of starlings?
