I will hopefully recive my J Woodward & Sons 300H&H fl automatic Double rifle. This is made in 1912 and is a wonderfull little thing.

I am though trying to serach for information and history of woodward, but this is hard to come by.

Does anyone know of a site where I can find this?

By the way, that link goes To the personal website of our own CptCurl.
I think we have a feature on that rifle here on NitroExpress too, but I took the quick search route directly to Curl's site.

What doo you guys know of the "Automatic"?

It is a magnificent mecanism. though its not self opening or ejecting. but the way it works and is designed is very ineresting. I also think that the very big topstrap is a love or hate object. The propotions of this gun is also very nice. Woodward could make guns. But it is very hard to find any history or other relevant information about them.

So the third was a 450bpe, no?
What's here is all I've known.
If I were in pursuit of more information I'd call Purdey and go from there

What's left to do on your 30 caliber rifle before you shoot it?

Here's one I had in my store in the "good old days", caliber .450/.400 BPE.

All I have left is this photo.

The third rifle was recambered to 9.3x74R. Bouth mine and this one was sold @ holt's.

Mine has been rebarreled in ferlach, ps by Fanzoj in the 50's in 308 win. So when I bought it I have rechambered this set of barrels to 300H&H FL.

I have the information I can from Purdey's regarding the rifle. But im more after some articles and and history. From the woodward firm.

Early on there were one or two articles in the Double Gun Journal featuring the Woodward Automatic. These were before 1996, and I do not have the articles nor have I read them.

Otherwise, Purdey has owned Woodward since before WW2 and has all records extant.

A little bit of history I can contribute: Take note the "Automatic" design refers to the cock-on-opening feature of this action. It first appeared in external hammer guns and was later applied to hammerless guns and rifles. Here are two photos I gleaned from the web of a lovely Woodward "Automatic" hammer double rifle. I wish I could call it my own.
