Staffan I was on the other side of a steep creek gully,no tree for me,it was high bank I was sitting on.
Make enough silly sounds Nigel and you can often have them looking for the source, make the wrong silly sound and thats it! Gone!

Matter of fact i walked 300 yards tonight off the track and a maiden hind jumped, with frig all work to get her back to the track, bam! Old faithful 7mm did the job as she exploded out of thickish bracken fern.

Where she fell in the pic.

I am happy to have a deer on the deck and to have beaten the blowies too, bloody March flies were biting though. The weather is still too mild to hang a carcase up for much more than a day with thunderstorm humidity high enough to promote moulds growing inside a body bag thats needed for fly protection.

After gutting and hanging her up I have to say that she has a caul fat cover and kidneys encased in fat that will testify to her good order, little fish are sweet..and much easier to get out of the bush too!
1/2 to my mate,1/4 to a daughter leaves me a back leg and an excuse to get another.
But I`m buggered if I will roll one that will take a lot of work to get out of the bush, the hinds in the top pics are safe where they are due to retrieval probs.

The younger ones are so much better eating too. Well done.

I spotted my last doe out last week, so I guess I have another one to butcher soon, once the vintage is over. As long as she shows up again. Going on three months in the wild, and she has learned a lot in that time. And only one deer, not a herd to find. If she is alive, she will show up.

Nice one Gryphon. Just ran out of venison and it will be a while before I get any. Not doing the deer thing this year. Ill swap ya a few crays for some venison. Wish it was as simple as that.
Im with you on the wont shoot a hinde unless its easy to recover. My last one was a epic to recover. Cheers Mick
