Hi All,
I've been led to beleive that one of the barrel manufacturers in the USA is making a batch of chopperlump rifle tubes.Would anyone out there know about this and if so could you let me have their contact info.

Many thanks

Mark

I seriously doubt it, in America anyway, but perhaps in Europe. If someone is making chopper lump barrels, I would like to know about it though.

There's no good reason an American barrel maker couldn't build chopper lump barrels, all thats needed is forged flanges/wings at the chamber ends of the billets.
There isn't a great deal of work involved in the process.

Is there demand..?
Is the cost to forge/machine barrel billets cheaper on US dirt than the cost of import chopper lump tubes?

Cheers

This is not exactly what you asked for but maybe this can help you. Just talked Hambrusch hunting weapons in ferlach, austria told me that they can make some just as blanks or finished barrels.

"Dear Erik,

out chopper lump barrels be made out of blanks dia. 65 mm or 80 mm.
We can supply the barrels at any stage you require.
Please send a sketch for the dimensions.

Best regards
Peter"

Hi Doubleriflejack,

Funny that the chopper lump subject came up. It just happens that in the last few days, I've been doing some research on the subject because I am planning on using them on the .700 that I am building now.

I know that it's a lot of work, but I want to be able to say that I made one.

Since forging the blanks is out of the question for me, I will use 1 1/2 x 2 1/2 bar stock, rough saw it and send it out for drilling and rifling.

I have some inquiries out for the drilling and rifling. I will post with the info when I get the answers.

Price from Ferlach is ~$3500.00..?
Max I'd like to hear what pricing and lead time you come up with.

Cheers

If anyone in the USA did this, it would have to be Ernie Stalman of Badger Defense. I am not sure if Ernie is making these, but I do know that some years ago when Holland and Holland reintroduced their Paradox guns, they consulted him and sent him a memento afterwards. It is in Ernie's office.

You could send him an e-mail. There are few nicer people to talk to IMHO.

Good hunting!

Heym in Germany makes barrels, both for chopper lump and mono blocs. I had a look at their processes earlier in the month, and probably have some photos somewhere on my cards.

The photos may not be in detail, I know I took photos of piles of barrels. Will see what else is on the cards. I have to work through 100 Gb of photos files so may not be straight away. Don't be afraid to remind me.
