Just thought I would let you all know that I have spent my hard earned $$$ on a new gun for myself. Damn, I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas to come.

I know the waiting thing. My Searcy 470 will be arriving in about a month. It has Exhibiton quality wood I sent and an extra set of 12 Ga barrels. My second Searcy will be ordered tomorrow.

I shall be wearing out the shotgun barrels on chukars and waterfowl. I have kinda given up on quail as the babies run up to me in early Summer for handouts. I live secludedly in a deer/elk (& cougar)Wintering area. Those little quail are cute little buggers. Sometimes they even follow me into the solarium. But I'll keep the big barrels handy for coyotes. I shoot about 40 a year from my upstairs bedroom and my den. A friend is going to Africa this Summer so we'll see what he can talk me into when he returns. A combo bird/buff hunt and Tigerfish trip might be prettty cool. In the mean time I'll get used to the gun. Besides, you never know when the feds will introduce Wooly Mammoth or something similar.

I am Butch's wood supplier now and traded for another 470 this morning. It should be ready around the Vegas show, I imagine. It will have ultra fancy wood I supply myself and otherwise be a usual PH model with the beautiful Searcy case. This one will be for sale.

Double WOO HOO. I just received a call with the tracking number. Should be only a couple of days now. I am going to Africa in 05.

Crl:

I can feel your excitement...

However, the rifle is sure "purdy" to look at, and I'm sure you'll spend hours admiring the craftmanship, but that ain't what's it's made for!

Make sure you MAKE time to get your butt out there in the cold (depending on where you live this time of the year) and throw some rounds down range!

And report back to all of us salivating over here!

Enjoy it, my friend...there is nothing like your own double to people who have wanted one for so long!

IT IS ALIVE!!

My Searcy PH 470 NE arrived yesterday. Looks very nice. Now I need to go out in the next couple of weeks to touch a round or two off.

Is there a good practice round that can be loaded. Butch gave me the specs on what the gun was regulated with. It appears that all his DGs are regulated with either 108 or 106 of IMR 4831. Is there a lighter load that any of you Searcy shooter use that will shoot well at 50yrds. Do you use a filler and if so what do you use.

CRL,

Congratulations!

A practice load that I have found works well in the .470 at 50 yards is 45.0 grains XMP5744 powder behind a 500 grain cast lead bullet (gas check not necessary) with F215 primers. No filler needed. Recoil is mild - it's about like a black powder 45-70 load.

If you want, you can substitute 400 grain .475" jacketed pistol bullets for the 500 grain lead, but the loads will shoot apart and high. Then you need to increase the powder charge until the bullets converge.

Have fun!

Is there any difference between the PH and deluxe model except nicer wood and the case?

The Deluxe has hand rubbed finish; better checkering (6 hours to checker instead of 1 1/2 hours); the frame is sculpted differently; and better engraving. Here is a NEWS FLASH. Butch has just raised the price on the Deluxe today because he has added articulated trigger and interlocking sears. For those who don't know, an articulated trigger is a hinged front trigger which is comfortably pushed forward by your trigger finger so that your trigger finger does not get thumped if you are not holding onto the gun sturdily enough. Interlocking sears make it impossible to fire both barrels at once. These features are normally only found on very expensive guns.

I spoke with Butch this week and the PH is going to go up in price as well. So if you want to get one before they become $12K guns do it now.
