Could a red stag with that excessive antler weight even run or move well?

Never seen anything like this in the wild so don't know. As they don't exist in the wild of course.

My Uncle has taken Mule Deer that are similar to this. IIRC he called it an 'atypical deer' but it was a wild one. Nothing farm raised I'm sure.

Personally I've never seen a moose or deer ike that around here but they may exist.

The oddest points and the shapes of them..it make me wonder just wtf they put in the food....none of the pen breeders will allow that they actually feed "supplements" of course.

Just terrible manipulation of both the animal and the collector.

Maybe we need a new free range "typical" standard this SCI thing has gone far enough.

Interesting to see they (Spey creek outfitters) also do Heli hunting for Tahr as well = no hunting ethics

Red deer with great numbers of points do occur naturally, but this one looks just too crazy. A 66 pointer was shot in 1696 near Berlin by Elector of Brandenurg Frederick the 3rd and is on display in " The Hall of Freaks " in a hunting lodge near Dresden. This set have a conventional layout with just a shit load on points.

We all know about that 66 pointer and there hasn't been one shot in the wild or with any where near that many points since...except in a man made and manipulated pen.

This image for once made me realise what greenies and antis feel when looking at "trophy photos" .... but for different reasons of course.

These guys are grinning thinking it is a major coup ... as someone said, if it is impressive to be a chequebook hunter then they can be proud and happy with themselves.

I wonder how they got the beast up to the top of the hill?

I have no doubt that stag can walk, run and carry those antlers just fine... If they are 20KG in wieght and a normal big stag carrys 10kg it is not unreasonable to put double the weight onto his head (slowly as the antler grows) and he will develop the strength to carry it.

This is genetic manipulation - selective breeding at work.

Cingale - the SCI record books separate these animals from free range animals already... correctly so!!

I agree, Matt, about that Stag, however a cousin of mine shot a 40 something point non-typical whitetail deer on their Sask. ranch in the 50's. It was wild, of course. You could throw a hat at it from any spot in the room and it would stick.

This dear was definitely a mutation, however it was not manipulated by man. Just wasn't done at that time.

It still happens, in nature. Just check the book on non-typicals. Some locations are suspect for game farms where feed and genetics are manipulated with, but others are not.

Every now and then, we get some pretty strange moose racks, but not often.
