Just measured an old M21 barrel in 8x57:

Diameter at the muzzle ( the last 55 mm / front sight ramp removed ) : 13,4 mm

Rifling depth of the 9,3 x62 : 9,28 mm the remaining 4,12 mm divided by 2 : 2,06 mm(0.0915 inch)

That is what a shotgun shows at the muzzle.

Muzzle pressure of the 9,3 x62 runs easy to 500 bar ( 7.553 psi )

I presume your barrel has the same dimensions .

I would not be lucky knowing these facts.

Anyway, if you trust your riflemaker , let him start his work.

What do you mean by the front sight is sleeved?

Compared with a barrel band front sight ramp ( inner diameter of the barrel band equals the outer diameter of the barrel) the BRNO M21 ramp consists of a bushing (outer diameter equals the barrel diameter at the muzzle).
That means the muzzle part of the barrel is turned down to accept the bushing that is then soldered on.
That is done so close that it is nearly unseen and makes you believe that the barrel diameter at the muzzle is that what you measure there , when the front sight is on place.

Same construction is found on Rigby´s .350 rifles, but also on many military Mauser rifles.

Hope that will help You.

Uploaded a picture how they did it . Here a Peruvian 1909 Mauser.

In the case of the M21 length of the front sight ramp is identical to the length of the bushing.

The gun is a delight to handle as it is. I can't wait to have everything finished. I must say that I like the Brno safety on the left side beter than the right side ones found on commercial 98s. I will definately need to pick up one of these in the Mannlicher style at some point.

The stock is on the way to Texas and the barreled action is on the way to JES Reboring for conversion and the scope is at Leupold having the #4 reticle installed. Once the stock and metal work are back they will be off to Mike McCabe to have a new bolt handle and mounts installed. Here are the before pics:

I will admit that it handles wonderfully as is. I will have to find a Mannlicher version in 7x57 after I get done with this project

I got a PM that the stock arrived and got a call from Leupold confirming the reticle change and it should be on the way back to me at the beginning of next week. The action and barrel should be at the reborer either Saturday or Monday. It is coming together nicely

Very nice rifle there , I have had a few Model 21's all in 7X57, the last rough one I had was going to be a 9.3X62 in a full stock, but got short on money again & sold it .

Say how did you get hold of Jesse on the rebore , I have rang him maybe 6-7 times & no reply back, I'm about to write him a letter & post it the old way soon ?

Thanks

I got the scope back from Leupold yesterday with the #4 reticle installed and a call from Jesse that he did the rebore and test fired it to make sure everything worked and fed OK. The rifle is in the mail and should be here on Saturday! Once the stock is done and put back together it will all be off to get the mounts installed and a new bolt handle.

I think I am going to have more funds than originally thought so I was thinking about putting it into this rifle. Let me hear any ideas. I am thinking about a model 70 style safety and shroud. I was going to leave the finish alone since it looks pretty good but I might as well have it done. Should I go with a traditional blue finish? I was thinking about Birdsong's Black T to match the scope or maybe an appropriate Cerakote color? Also how d you feel about Alumina scope covers or Butler Creek covers? Does anyone know where to get an old style sling swivel for the butt stock?
