What do you guys prefere?

First of all, with elastic or leather loops for the cartriges?

Open or with a flap to cover the shells?

Do you like seperate holders that slide onto a belt, "integrated" types where the belt itself has loops,
buttstock shell holders, or any other kind that's slipped my mind at the moment?

And then how many shells should it hold?

Or do you like to just have the cartridges loose in your pocket?

I have a couple of cartridge holders that fit 5 rounds each. It's the kind that slides onto a belt and has a flap that encloses it.
Got them when I was in London years ago and visited H&H. You'd think these would be a quality product. Unfortunatly this isn't so... The leather quickly became very loose, so loose that the cartridges can fall out if the flap isn't closed. Which is the second problem. The flap was secured down with the use of brass studs. These were total crap and quickly dissapeared while hunting... So now the flap just flaps!

So after this experiance, I've been thinking of getting something with elastic to hold the rounds, and a button to hold the flap closed. Or maybe I was just unlucky and another producer makes a better simular product that won't be a waste of money?

I am currently using the leather ones you describe. They seem to work well and I have had no trouble with them at all. The elastic ones wear out if used much. I have had some success using the elastic ones that slide on a buttstock. Slipping rounds loose in my pocket seems to be what I always fall back on.

I don't care for the butstock ones...seemd every good shot is from the wrong side of the rilfe and its difficult to get a good spot weld on a row cartridges.

Right now I have a 5 round elastic belt slide....but always have a few loose rounds in my pocket. I would like too get a good leather one only because it has more class.

...galco has a specially designed cartridge wallet (with flap) for large bore double rifles (6 cartridges)...

...the leather is quite robust and durable, albeit not as 'refined' as, say, the leather products from westley richards...

...i usually just loop two such wallets onto a 2.0" safari belt (left + right) and unhinge each of the flaps during a hunt...makes for 12 easily accessable (and dirt protected) rounds...

Four or 5 round elastic carrier in my right from shirt pocket (
i'm right handed).

I have some leather bullet belt pouches and canvas culling belts.

One type is the old fashioned type with a brass nipple which holds down a flap over 5 or so cartridges in a single line. I have one of these for my .375 from Galco and two of them from Westley Richards for my .450. The Galco is better made by far.

Another type for my .375, .308 and .30-06 has four rounds times 2 (ie 8) when it opens it unfolds. I have a couple of each of these as sixteen rounds isn't many sometimes. These are Galco as well and well made.

I like the first type above for dangerous game as you need to hold the second type down with one hand while extracting bullets from the bottom 'flap'. Though it can be done one handed. When hunting buffalo with my .450 and did manage to extract two rounds from the single flap type to have in reserve in my hand. The bull was facing us off at less than 25 yards.

I also have two canvas culling belts in .375 and .450 from Westley Richards. Each holds 20 rounds. Have not used them yet, but can't wait for an opportunity to need twenty rounds of .450's or even .375's. A Queensland pig hunt maybe if the drought has ever broken up there.

I would like to try a butt stock pouch as well.

I was advised against leather once in the tropics but never have had a problem with it myself yet.

If shooting a cartridge loaded by Federal, I like their plastic belt shell holder included it the box of cartridges.
Not very classy, but they work well. Using a double on dangerous game, a shirt with cartridge loops at the breast pocket works well for a rapid reload.

I like a seperately worn open canvas belts.
They hold 20 rounds
I have these belts for both my .375 H&H and for my .500 Jeffery
The look the right way, are light (without the ammo)
20 rounds of .500 Jeffery with 535 or 600 grn misiles will not tag along unnoticed.

20 x .500 Jeffrey rounds will sure get noticed, especially by you when carrying them around.

Now with your 20 round .500 Jeffrey culling belt and my 20 round .450 No 2 NE culling belt, we need to team up and find a herd of elephant to cull somewhere.

I would be awesome.
I love the 450 NO 2 the most beautiful cartridge ever made for a double.
Best looking cartridge for bolt action is the Jumbo aka .500 Jeffery.



I would very much like to hunt Jumbo with you but the time $$$$

I will hunt wild boars and feral hogs with Juan P Pozzi from Argentina this spring. With Knife, revolver and the :500 Jeffery naturally.
9 days of hunting I need it.

Ha ha. Finally can see it. Like the sword.

Sonyimagestation is really crap. Does anyone know why it works sometimes and not others? Is the bandwidth capped at a limit per day?
