Ripp, I am only asking out of curiosity. I am not a big Weatherby fan after shooting a 378 weatherby magnum a couple of years ago. I was declared "Holy" thereafter as it kicked the living hell out of me. I am not recoil shy, I have shot a 450 NE no 2, a 458 lott and a 470, on all of them the perceived recoil was less than my 375 . My 375 is a Sako and as we know it is a very light rifle. But that Weatherby really had a go at me.

I do not know any people in RSA that own a Weatherby and mostly have to rely on books to get information. I have also learned over the years that authors etc have their own ideas, likes and dislikes.

As proved in this post hunters often have different experiences than what are written in books.

I too have a Sako in .375 H&H.stainless model 75..love the gun and its very accurate..but as you stated, lightweight and for me, the recoil is more severe than my .416 Rem..As to the .378---yes that is bad and I have heard the 375 Weatherby is even worse if that can be...

Agree---finding out as I get older, what you read in books and magazine can be a guide perhaps, by individual experiences may be totally different...difference in temps, reloading components, shooting ability, etc...everything is so subjective...

Have a good one..

Ripp

I have a 416 Rigby and love it. I have fired the 416 Ruger in a Ruger. If i was to buy another 416 it would be the Ruger. It is lighter than my CZ550, shorter, quicker on target and felt recoil was less than with the CZ.

That's very interesting to know. Was the .416 Ruger in a ruger stock ? ie factory ?

I agree. A friend of mine has the Ruger Alaskan (?) in 416Ruger and it is relatively light (8lbs?) but is no worse to fire than my CZ550 in 458WM. Good stock design.

Another friend has a 416Rigby but it is just marginally sharper in recoil than my 458, that comes from the extra 20 grains of powder but otherwise similar ballistics (eg 400gn at 2400fps). The 416Ruger has the same performance as the 416Rigby but out of a 20" barrel.

John, yes it was factory to the bone. However the bolt was nowhere near as smooth as the CZ.

When God invented the number .416, He intended it to go with the name "Rigby".
