2012 holiday hunt with TYB!
      #200602 - 25/01/12 10:15 PM

Had a big 4 days hunting over the weekend.
Started Friday when I checked the mail box and my Bushnell trial cams were in the post.
I placed the order on the second of Jan in the US and they were here under 2 weeks, pretty good IMO!
Shit, 8am I need batteries and SD cards, over to woollies and I have the batteries, fueling up to leave and run into one of the wife’s netball mates who just happens to work at a local computer store, what time you open I ask, 9 o’clock is the reply, what ya need she says, SD cards, no worries, be there in 5 mins and I’ll open up for you!
So 8.15 am we are off finally!

Arrive at property, set up camp in the old homestead, quick bite and out we head.
Check out a couple of spots, no goats, out to another area and run into a mob of billies.
Will (TYB) opens up and scores a nice billy, then drops another!
Ok, drive around to pick up the others; he drops 2 more leaving one for me! (Cheeky shit!)
I spot another mob and Off after these, managed to get a couple more billies.
Good start to the trip, until staked a tyre, bugger, quick change, looks like I got a job when we get back to camp!
Sighted a few more mobs during the afternoon, nothing worth taking so back to camp and fix the flatty, bloody stick in on the side wall!

Sorted out the game cameras and put them out on a couple of dams that we have seen goats in the 100’s on before! (Also put in the yabbie nets!)
Out spotlighting that night, bloody foxes are about but wouldn’t sit!
Managed to get one and also a big tom cat!
Next day out early to check he game cameras, well pretty well SFA!
Only good thing was the Yabbies we pulled out of the nets!

Back out to another area and we set them up, one at a dam and the other at a trough where there were no stock in the paddocks but plenty of sign.

Done some more driving in a few different areas, spotted a few but nothing worth taking.

Out spotlighting that night, I managed a couple rabbits and another fox.

Will also shot his first fox and was pretty happy (Although he missed an earlier one), another notch for TYB!

Next day we checked the game cameras, well FM there were bloody goats coming in like bees to honey, we had found the hot spot, also what times they were coming in so we had a plan?

We staked out the dam in the afternoon, when we arrived there was a mob there but e moved in without them spotting us.

Will couldn’t believe how at one stage we had goats only several meters away from us!
Anyhow after about half an hour we moved to the dam and the goats trotted off for 50m and went back feeding!

We staked out the dam and it wasn’t log before a mob was spotted coming in.
Will lined up on the back and dropped a couple of young 2 tooth billies for meat.

As we were sorting these another mob was coming in.
We had four mobs come in within half an hour.

Next day we were out early and watched the trough area, A nice trophy billy was spotted and I managed to nail him, my PB at 36 1/2 inch!

Later we found a few pics on the GC of him at the trough.

Anyhow a run down of the first hunt for 2012, hopefully the rest of the years hunts are as successful!

A few pics.

Will with the first billy of the trip.

I managed to nail a good one!

A team effort, although I was lucky to get in on this mob!

A few yabbies out of one of the dams!

Cooking yabbies in the pot!

A bit of a feed for a couple of hungry hunters!

Sunset on another day out bush!

This roo was not fussed by us!

A decent size tom cat taken!

Will out glassing areas for goats!

A decent size sand goanna!

Most of the dams in the area were on full capacity due to some good rain late last year!

A nice 34in billy taken!

A few frog mouths were found while out spotlighting.

My PB 36 1/2 in billy.

Will from the opposite bank where he shot two meat goats.

Some game camera shots.

Will with his first fox.

The youngest daughter is yabbie mad, I reckon she sniffs them out!
I can't have a feed without her right next to me.

Hunt hard and enjoy the adventure.

Good work Phil.
Your young bloke is lucky and so are you to have a top goat block like that.

Love the yabbies myself.

Looks like the sort of block you will get a 40 incher from.

Very nice reading and great pics. Good to see the coming generation!! Yabbies are very popular in Sweden, we fish them mostly in August. Cook them with salt and dill. /Staffan

Looks like a good trip.

The water in the dams look lovely.

Yabbies, used to have lots in my creek on the property. Not a sight of them anymore. Used to have lovely water in it in summer and only shorter periods being dry. So yabbies had a nice home. But not anymore. And NOT due to global warming crap but due to too many dams on springs and streams upstream, especially a small number of very greedy owners of very large dams.

I would think yabbies could be found in those dams, perhaps some yabbie poaching is in order!
