Sometimes one sees a "forum" where "everyone" is against bakkie hunt, then give it a year, and "everyone" (the same guys sometimes ) where they admit to shooting off the back of a truck for almost entire "safaris". Ha ha, I won't name the forum. Not this one!

Bakkie hunting, not as common for dangerous game though is my guess. What do people think, do guys shoot buffalo from a bakkie? Leopard? Elephant?

It wouldn't surprise me if that was done sometimes with some clients. Just like one can see on some forums that the "hunter" brags about shooting numerous buffalo from 200-300 meters away. Which takes the challenge out of "dangerous game" hunting in my opinion.

The bear rug deal happened here in BC, where the 8 1/2' grizzly rug was 'lost' by the taxidermist. I'm sure he's no longer working as a taxidermist - at least I hope so. I've not seen it on any forum as this one and ALR are pretty much it for me.

That sounds like a rather seedy undertaking.

We could end up with another of those great charging Lion videos from that canned hunt where one the hunters was knocked over.

I'll see if I can find it on youtube.

This is one I was thinking of, not sure if it is canned or not.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohvxdbtHALA

Years ago I showed this video to an exhibtor who was selling some African hunts at a show . He went ballistic saying things like "thats not how its done " , "thats canned hunting" , "I am going to report those guys and get them in trouble" . He just went on and on about how wrong "canned hunts" are especially for dangerous game and how he never conducts or participates in such goings on . I was a little surprised at such a strong reaction because I had viewed it a little more lightheartedly as had most folks I had showed it to . At the end of the show I watched as this same vehement anti-canned hunter went over to the snake pit display and bought a Diamondback Rattlesnake because he wanted the skin as a trophy .

This is not aimed at anyone . It is a true story . I am not saying there was anything wrong with shooting the lion or buying the snake just that given the guys reaction to the lion shooting , it seemed to me like more than a bit of hypocracy to buy the snake as a trophy especially one as dangerous as Diamondback .

About the snake - maybe he just didn't view them in the same way. How many people would be opposed to kangaroo skins compared to *going to say crocodiles, may be a bad comparison*. Can't really explain well, apologies for that.
Not a jab at you, just saying snakes seem to be generally viewed differently, except to those who apreciate them.

I was amused when reading Selous recently, that Selous said, out of the many hundreds of buffalo he had shot, that they didn't charge if more than 50 yards away.

Now we know one person ridicules Mark Sullivan saying he (the guy) has never had a buff charge, yet watching his videos all the buff, a couple hundred so far are shot at a fair distance away.

While Sullivans when they charge are all shot pretty much up close.

I reckon hunting a buff from a distance would be as boring as shooting an impala at a distance. Up close and personal please!

(all off topic. )
