Essy´s first kill!!!
      #198455 - 02/01/12 07:15 PM

This was my 6 months old Deutsche Bracke`s first kill. I was out on New Year´s Eve to train her. I hoped to find some group of Fallow deer for her to bark and run after. We were walking for an hour, she didn´t search out very long from me. I use this Garmin GPS on my dogs, in my handset I have a map in which I can follow them. But then she did move out some 300 meters and I thought she had smelled something. She moved back and I did see her on 100 meters in the trees. Suddenly she went away again and did start barking very intense. After a minute it came 5-6 Fallow deer’s in my way. They stopped just in front of me and I shot one of the calves. The rest of them did start running and soon after the dog came, she didn´t stop and proceeded following them. She did follow them and continued barking for 15 minutes. Twenty minutes later she did find her way back to me and were very well praised by a very pride owner. It´s so nice when you have a good start with a young dog. Every individual are different but 6 ½ months are a rather early start. I did use my CG 2000 in .300 Win Mag. //Staffan

I dont think 6.5 months is early Staffan as I believe in giving all pups an early as possible intro into the game they will be hunting.
Nice to see her out there again and with the deer too,she will be so valuable to you in following any if they run after the shot.

This is all I found Daryl..I reckon we knew that though.
Its the 'bracke' part i dont get so to those that know what does it mean.

Deutsche Bracke, or German Bracke Hound.

Slightly longer & taller and longer nosed than a Beagle, but otherwise, quite similar, ears and colours.

In the top picture, he actually looks quite Beagle-ish.

Nearly all German dogs have Bracke in their names, Dachsbracke, Alpländische Bracke, Österreichische Bracke. Historically, the term Bracke was used in German to mean the scenthounds. They are not related to Beagle, not in modern time anyway.

tks Sville - that's interesting considering they look so similar.

Perhaps it's the other way around.

The heading out on a track and returning by pushing deer to you is what Beagles do with cotton tail rabbits.

Sville,

Beautiful dog and the same for the pictures. Curious, what make of camera are you using?

Canon 50d, unfortunately I only had my tele 300/4L with me. I was forced to be on a long distance.

Thank you. The longer lens throws a difficulty factor in there for both equipment (digital electronics image stabilization) and user. I have noticed many nice pictures in your posts which so many other NE folks enjoy as well. As to Essy again, she is sure a pretty little pooch. I look forward to seeing her mature into a seasoned hunter.

Regards,

That is one reason the background is blurred making the subject matter stand out so well. I think anyway.
