Birds Today

Scotty travelled up from Katherine to hunt Geese, where we were hunting over decoys. ( His decoys) Didnt know what to expect as a cyclone warning had some strange weather around.
Introductions to the property owner and asked if there were many around. She said shoot them ones near the trough..........
Scotty got two out of the mob near the trough and the dogs retreived them well. We then split and jumped them again, Scotty didnt connect and they flew towards me. I got three out of the mob and they all fell in some thick hoare hound. The dogs recovered all of them.
We moved on and set the decoys up on two water holes. Scotty and Koong set up under a nearby tree and waited as I went into the pastures to jump the birds. First jump I got two on the lift off and then the birds circled and came back over me, and I got another four.
The flock went over and dropped in on Scotty, Birds were falling as Scotty got amongst them. I continued on jumping birds and sending them on to Scotty .
The shooting slowed a little as most of the birds moved onto a mango block down the road.
Cleaned the birds and went back to the house , the owner said theres a big mob behind the hoare hound in the paddock Scotty and Koong got three more when they jumped them.
We had a good Boxing day . The dogs worked well and were competing with each other. Finished up just before the rain moved in.
Season ends on the second of January so might get one more shoot in before it ends. Heres some pics Mick.
Koong and Scotty, Mack and Bang Weimeraner and GSP both 13 months.

I've not had anything to do with geese yet.
Big buggers, aren't they?

Most of the birds are very young and are still covered in down feathers. Very tender and great eating. Although a smaller bird, still great shooting.
The ones standing near the clay thrower were more of a target. The trough is about 20m to the left of the thrower.
Heres a pic of the clay thrower. Mick
