Ha Ha!
Undoubtedly that growler was a staged shot as we all know they are gentle, mild-mannered, cuddly paragons of family values...

PS, I wish it was as easy as the bumpersticker says...
I have LOTS going on in this regard but cannot say much yet, but will report as things develop in the next few weeks.
In the meantime;
Without toxicant application involving vast and sweeping operations, wolves have never been threatened or populations even significantly reduced anywhere in the world in regions with terrain such as exists in north and central Idaho. Wolf populations are not fragile and in fact wolves are one of the most persistent mammals on earth due to the combination of their prolificacy and behavior.
We did not get rid of them by mistake or easily. In fact, it was a war effort that finally {mostly, but not 100% even} cleaned our forests of these vermin with funds provided first by Congressional response to pleading from the cattle and sheep industries and then by emergency war appropriations.
According to the Federal Bureau of Biological Survey Annual Report 1923, 3,567,000 strychnine baits were placed in coyote and wolf control operations.
That's Three Million, Five Hundred Sixty Seven Thousand. Federal strychnine baits ALONE.
These 3,567,000 baits do NOT include poisoning, trapping and shooting efforts of State, County, Cattlemen's Associations, Woolgrowers, University Extension Agents and private individuals throughout the US West.
No, hunting and trapping seasons will not reduce wolf populations. Period.
Stay tuned, I have much to share, tho not yet...
