Hello Folks
I have just had a lot of fun shooting my 7x57 Model B. It has a Redfield aperture sight fitted, and an original foresight.
The Redfield will not go low enough (it is touching the bridge) to bring the point of impact to a reasonable place.
The front dovetail is approximately 5.4 mm (very difficult to measure)wide at the base on a transverse cut. I checked in Recknagel but cannot see anything that might fit.
Could anyone tell me the "proper" this dimension for this dovetail, and where I might start to look for a higher foresight.
How would such a site be described in "German" . . . that I might try on egun.de.
Thanks
Foster

Cannot tell you the size but Marbles made front sight inserts with a dovetail of about that size. I have a new on in packet here but without opening the packet cannot measure it properly. Might be worth dropping them a line?

If your front sight base is unaltered since it left the Mauser factory, any front sight made for the military Mauser M96, M98 and so on rifles will fit your base. As these military Mausers are used by many target shooters, post-type frontsights are available. These are 2.2mm = .085" wide and 8.2mm =.320" high, from top of base, meant to be filed down to shoot to the orignal rear sight.

the marbles #27 mauser sights are .265 tall from the top of the sight to the bottom of the dovetail. a marbles #54 enfield sight is .290 tall and its dovetail is only a few thousands wider and can be filed down with a needle file to fit. i have a few of each.

Hello Jim - thanks but I need about .315 high at least. I have a couple of options on the go now and I think at least one will pan out.
