The only information that I have is that found in Jon Speeds book on the Obendorf sporting Mausers. Obendorf produced some special actions for the 303 which have a slanted magazine to cater for the rimmed case. Rigby got some of them as their agents Boss using one is not surprising at all. Without digging the book out that's all I can recall off hand.

Nice gun. Not too many Boss Bolt Actions out there.
Email Boss.
They are always very helpful with information.

Beautiful rifle - how about a photo of the rifle out of the case?
Not many Boss rifles out there period, either magazine or double. I have never seen even an image of a Boss double rifle.

One can just about make out the straddle floorplate in the photo, so Brithunter's observation is correct, it is a Mauser slantbox receiver for the rimmed 303 cartridge.

Here's some more pics, it does have slanted mag for the 303 rimmed. From what i can gather it was made around 1900. Shamus, you need to select the actual graphic file, the jpg or gif file name and location, not the page the photo is on. Usually right click with your mouse on the photo, select file location or similar, sometimes can be found in the properties, depending on which browser you use. Use that file location and photo file to insert in the IMAGE code on the forums.

Now that is a nice rifle! True that Boss didn't do very many Mausers. I think I saw one in 404 and that is the only other Boss I have seen. Yours looks like it was done up just as a Rigby would have been. Great gun Shamus. How is the bore etc?

Hi Huvius,
The bore is excellent as well as the bluing, I'd say it hasn't had much use at all. The only damage is a few dings on the wood which is not bad for being 100+ years.
Cheers

Nice find Shamus.
These .303Mausers are rare and with the execption of the barrelprofile is very similar to my .303 Rigby. Your barrel has a stepdown a head of the expresssights mine hasn`t. Other than that this rifle could be a Rigby. These old rifles are very petit and makes all new made boltactioned guns into railroad sleepers by compairision. In a Mauser98 the .303 becomes sort of "Exotic"..

A pal of mine and I went onto the Boss stand at a show at Bisley a few years ago. My pal has the "presence"; they probably thought I was his gamekeeper. There was a picture of the Boss O/U double rifle on the wall and my pal asked,
“I see you still do the double rifle. Does it sell well?”
The Boss representative, without changing his expression in any way, replied,
“Oh yes sir, we sell about one a year.”
