LOOKING! For photos of the forend catch on a Jeffery DR
      #192697 - 28/10/11 04:45 PM

I am looking for photos of the forend catch on a Jeffery double rifle similar to mine.

Why?

Because mine fell off when I last used the rifle earlier this year and I lost it.

The catch is the type which is located at the front of the forend. The bit that is missing is the decorative sort of triangular fitting that surrounds the 'button' that is depressed to remove the forend.

I know several members, current or past, have a similar rifle.

Could you please take some good photos of the catch so I can supply it to a gunsmith to make me a replica? Thanks.

I can draw one from memory pretty well, but photos would be a plus.

I will post a photo of the forend as well.

My WJ Jeffery is a boxlock model, .450 No.2 NE which the slight engravings of a Gaur in the locks. I have seen similar on other members photos. The .450/400 models with a leopard on the locks I think have the same catch as well.

Thanks for any help.

I'd be happy to provide the pictures when I return to Ak. during the first part of December. Mines a 500/450 Hollis but both were Leonard built rifles.
Perhaps 'Bonanza' still has images from his time as caretaker?

Sorry for the poor picture quality-I no longer have this rifle otherwise would retake. This is a Jeffery 450/400 3" Leonard-built rifle with the Birmingham pussycat engraving.

Thanks, that looks pretty much like it. I will see if I can find a close up photo still as someone will have one of these. I know someone in Oz whom has one of these .450/400's by Jeffery and Leonard.

Damn, I took a whole bunch of photos of rifles today but forgot completely about the forend of my Jeffery.

Thanks very much for posting the photo.

The missing bit.

I was looking for a close up photo for the minor engraving I think it had on it. Probably was only a "border line" plus maybe something else at the pointy end (ie towards the breech end).

If anyone has a Jeffery in .400 or .450, it will probably be the same design.

John

I forgot, I have one, if not two 450 / 400's, one of which was definitely made by Leonard, Ross Waghorn picked it as soon as he saw the gun.

The other one I will have to check but I think it has the same engraving as yours.

vagrouser's pic looks familiar. But without the pointy bit and mine had a screw in it, until it fell out.

I tried to enhance the photo and enlarge it.

500nitro, one of your photos would be welcome.

Thanks for the reminder.. This slipped my mind.
I just looked at my Hollis and it doesn't have the piece you're missing. Just the plunger going in under the forearm.
