Adjusting trigger pull on double
      #192322 - 22/10/11 08:18 PM

How do you adjust the trigger pull on a double, in this case a Heym? More precisely, how exactly and which surfaces do you stone, and how do you check your progress without reassembling the rifle?

Thanks!

Philip

My strong advice is, if you are asking these types of questions, you don't know what you are doing so take it to a gunsmith who knows what he is doing to do it.

Just my HO.

I don't know about Heym's but I do know you only get one chance at stoninga trigger and once metal comes off, it is damn hard to put it back on.

And the difference between a smooth trigger and a trigger that fires itself off (ie the double rifle will double on firing the first barrel) can be quite small.

.

1. If there was any competent gunsmith around I'd ask him instead of putting the question here.

2. The closest gunsmith knowledgeable in doubles is 3000 km away.

3. I'm perfectly capable of tackling any job I undertake, provided I have the correct information to begin with. Having never done a trigger job on a double, I'm asking here, in order to get a reply from someone who knows what he is talking about: this will save me tons of time trying to figure out things by myself, and looking for hard-to-find technical literature.

Now, I rephrase the question:

Is there on this forum a competent gunsmith, knowledgeable in double rifles, who would be kind enough to give me some technical information? A PM would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Kano, I wasnīt trying to give you any aggro, just I wouldnīt mess with a rifle like that if I didnīt have a LOT of experience, Iīd rather send it 3000km away and pay the necessary, how can you describe exactly what to do if you canīt see the problem ? best, Mike

Hi Mike, no problem, I didn't mean to sound rude.

Fact is, I have good metalworking experience, and I know the effect that changing an angle or reducing a travel would have. But I know very well that the slightest excess in these would result in a ruined sear/hammer, so I ask the question instead of embarking on a precision job without having any data to go by...

Sending the rifle anywhere is out of the question, export/re-import paperwork would be a nightmare making an Israel-Palestine peace deal look like a walk in the park!
