Drinking the wrong stuff?
      #1916 - 07/03/03 08:43 PM

My Australian friends,

One of my hunting buddies came over tonight to eat a bite and drink some beer(medicinal purposes only, I have a kidney stone). The beer was Steinlager(NZ beer) and while opening one of several found the following statement printed on the bottle:

"Okay, okay, we know there are more sheep in New Zealand than people. Twelve times as many, in fact. New Zealand is considered a sanctuary for sheep, where they can live in peace, unmolested by Australians."

After reading this scurrilous statement, we considered(for a second)not finishing the box of beer in protest, supporting our Australian hunting mates but this was a medical emergency, of sorts(ever have a kidney stone?), so I thought bringing it to your attention would suffice. I swear we would have been consuming Aussie beer but we only get Fosters(Australian for beer) and it is made in Montreal, Canada(don't forget the stone).

Guys, please tell us it a'int so!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Joe

Ovis

I have a hard fact to impart to you. Fosters is the beer we sell to foreignors who don't know no better

Steinlager is a great beer no doubt and I drink it quite a bit.

Now don't get me started on sheep jokes but one I must tell you.

***

New Zealanders are proud to claim they have more sheep than any other country in the world.

But that is not true, Australia actually has more sheep than New Zealand. The Kiwis have more sheep PER PERSON than any other country in the world.

They are also the only country where the people worry how many sheep they have PER PERSON!

Baaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Any Kiwi's here?

In reply to:

I thought polygamy was banned in NZ?

NitroX,

It's funny that we get no other Australian beers here other than Foster's. "Foster's, Australian for beer" is the advertising slogan used here. We get a number of good Australian wines, Penfold's, Lindemans,etc., but no Aussie beer. Steinlager is my favorite import. What are some good Australian beers?Let me know and maybe our distributor can get us some.

Sunny day here, time to get outside. BAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Ovis in NZ the fella`s check over their mobs of sheep at night and they wear VELCRO gloves and RUBBER boots, anyway heres a quickie--A farmer went into his wool shed to get it ready for the days shearing of the wool and to his suprise there in the catching pen was one of the Kiwi shearers making love to one of his sheep--he yelled out "hey you are supposed to be shearing that" and the Kiwi yelled back " i aint SHARING her with anyone"
And dont believe that we drink Fosters here coz we dont,most consider it to be a girls drink,biggest seller in Oz is Victoria Bitter but we have an incredible amount of variety here with also many home brewers as well

Australian beers to try ...

James Boag from Tasmania;

Coopers from South Australia - Coopers Sparkling Ale, Coopers Bitter - Coopers are available in the USA, not sure which states though. They have quite an export market also for home brew kits;

there is a brand of beer in Australia with the name "Hahn" - you can't go wrong with that name on the beer eg "Long Brew";

another SA brewery makes the Southwark Premium brand which also good;

Vic Bitter is drinkable even if it comes from Victoria .

Gryph's story about rubber boots (Wellingtons etc) brought to mind a story. When I attended High School I had a lot of friends in the agriculture class (a "stream" of study with an emphasis on agricultural studies - "agates"). Their teacher was a bit of an idiot and he could never work out why they all used to laugh at him when he went to check the school's sheep. He also used to don rubber boots before heading out to the paddock .
