craftsmenship from around 1910- inside of an Drilling
      #191134 - 01/10/11 09:23 PM

Very nice made Drilling from around 1910, Blitzsystem with automatic safety. If you are a little bit in metalwork you can imagine the handwork, in an time without CNC etc. All parts high polished with exact meeting sharp edges. Signed Miller & Val. Greiss - München, eventually made in Suhl.

Its such a joy to see this. It only adds fuel to why I have a great passion for these old guns, and why I disregard modern day factory made guns in general.

chapmen,

It's a beautiful work of art for sure. I second SAHUNT's request for additional pictures of the action and ask if you could show a view or two of any marks/stamps that could possibly lead us to knowing who the action maker was. Thank you very much for posting.

Regards,

Buchseman

So here some more pics.
Basic rifle is signed Miller&Val.Greiss München, 16-65/16-65/9,3x72R, nitro proofed shotgun barrels, the 9,3 barrel is proofed with blackpowder and has deep lead grooves.Proofed 1908 in Zella Mehlis. Mounted is an Zeiss Diatal 4x32.
Second barrel is made by Max Möller Zella Mehlis, 16-70/16-70/6,5x58R (Sauer&Sohn), nitroproofed August 1941 in ZM. Mounted is an Kahles Wien 4x. For this barrel there is also an .22 insert barrel passed in the right shotgun barrel, made by Krieghoff.

Maker is so far not known, see my thread:

chapmen,

I'm sorry; I didn't recognize this post as being related to your earlier post. You hit a couple of the right people for a response by having both Raimey and Axel respond. Your previous posting of the barrel and action stamps tell a great deal of the gun but the "TH" or "MH"(?) stamp appears to still be a mystery. That is quite a nice drilling that you have and I look forward to seeing the completion of your restoration project. I suppose now that I've seen (again) your other pictures I could wait for others once your project is completed but ... by chance do you have one of what appears to be the flip-up diopter (tang sight) in the up position? It is unusual as compared to most.

Regards,

Buchseman

here you are:

also there is an automatic rear sight if you switch to the bullet barrel, the flip up tang sight can only get up if the barrel switch is on bullet barrel.

It looks like a modified standard system. I can´t say anything about where the drilling was build. Miller was one of the largest Guntraders in these times. I think Collath worked for him. Maybe I can ask my boss, Mr. Retz sr.. He´s 81 years now, I think he knows something about this.

For more questions about German guns buildet from 1890-1940, please ask. We´re spezialized in rebuilding finest systems like the original Nimrod from Thieme&Schlegelmilch or the Sauer Stabillock.

Frank

Chapman
That is certainly a once in a lifetime drilling. Wonderful caliber and the layout of the controls. Nice to see something like that with the selector covering the diopter and the tang safety. I didn't notice, what does it weigh?

Lancaster, those words couldn't be more true. Hehe.
